Home Match Day Thread +++ 16/03/2019 OUFC v Bradford City match day thread +++

Not to mention I'm almost certain the player he suggested playing is currently injured I believe; couldn't fulfill his international call-up due to injury and wasn't involved this morning with the U18s, so seems that way.

But apart from that he had a good point!!!

Having one of the most welcome beers of my life. My god that was frustrating, and ultimately, tense as hell.

Bradford were just awful. Their fans, who came in some numbers and were pretty loud throughout, deserve better. We’ve had s**t teams come here before and try and shithouse a bit at the very least, but those players just looked utterly devoid of fight.

Brannigan and Kashi bossed the midfield for me. Kashi looks to have a better range of passing than Mous and is very tenacious. Not sure if Bradford's midfield are a good judge of quality as opponents though.

It’s a bit of a weird one because normally games ebb and flow and both teams have at least one chance but Bradford just offered nothing. So it’s easy to reiterate what I said at half time about our shape being great throughout, but I don’t know if we were challenged enough for that to be valid praise. In the same vein, I’d praise KR for bringing on Mackie for Henry, but it really wasn’t even a risk - we were so dominant in midfield that we didn’t even need that third man.

I absolutely f*****g LOVE Jamie Mackie. I don’t think he gets nearly enough love on here. He just has a presence that is kind of undefinable - for such a small guy he battles so well physically, and I think he added that bit of nous tonget us over the line today. From his comments on the radio, it sounds like he actively told the ref to calm down, not get caught up in the moment, and have a think about disallowing the goal at the end, which led to him ultimately overturning it. I mean that’s just incredible man management of an official. And compare his finish with the chance Whyte snatched at earlier in the half - both on the bounce, both tricky chances, but where Whyte just slashed at it, Mackie has the composure to take it down and finish. A real asset, and a great professional. Also loved his stepping on the heels of his marker at corners - just that little bit of shithousery to unnerve the defence.

What a result. Those are the kind of moments that define seasons. The only time I’ve experienced limbs like that at a home game was after Roofe’s second against Swansea in 2016. A great result, and a crucial one. You can’t ignore the fact that we SHOULD have been out of sight by the final whistle, but it feels like we’ve broken a duck here, it’s like the players had a mental block to scoring. I’m just so happy man, this buzz is gonna stay with me for a while (well, until another frustrating 1-0 loss at Cov).

OMG.
What a finish.
I admit it, it could have been me moaning as I really couldn’t see the point in hauling off Graham when it was another so so game for Henry ( despitea well struck free kick).
Whyte Skyed his first chance then carved out two wide open opportunities to shoot only to take another touch to far to his left with the goal aching in front of him. I couldn’t see us scoring if we were there all night especially after Sinclair somehow failed to convert a slow crossed ball from 6 inches out.
But from a very close chance for them came the most incredible moment in football that I have witnessed in ages.
No time left in the game and Ruffels finds whyte with a great pass from there somehow the ball ends up at an awkward height for Mackie who takes a brilliant touch to tee it up and then spanks it into the net.

At this point I must confess I lost all control as I went completely ballistic. I was not alone. All you other fuckers around me were going ape s**t too.
For one of the first times this season, there was elation, relief. Belief.
Then dis-belief.
The threat of them chalking off the goal of the season was very real, and the furore went on for far too long for my liking.
No matter, eventually, it was 1-0 to the Oxford boys and so it remained. Well done boys. I really didn’t see a goal in us but my god what a princely priceless goal that might turn out to be.

Where to begin? I can see why Bradford would be unhappy (but I cannot give a flying feck) but the issue is with how selectively rules are applied in games. Their 21 was lucky to be on the pitch as was 40 - bet Bowyer isn't moaning about that - and Caddis should have been booked for diving. If the Assistant Referee had such an issue with that goal kick, he could have waved his flag to stop the game at the time, but the Ref was in the box and let it go. It seemed strange to suddenly question it after the goal. As for the Bradford player with the penalty. Do P**s off.

For everything, lots of snatched shots and not enough calmness around the box, but largely a men against boys performance. Kashi did very well, the back 4 defended calmly and we were busy all game - end product is the issue. Bradford looked terrible and very much look to be on the way down.

And finally. Some of our fans are absolute embarrassments. Whinge and moan for 93 minutes, offering nary a positive vibe of support to the team - just dollops of sarcasm then, jump around like loonies when Mackie scores, after calling him a useless lady garden a minute before. Please stay at home and take up something that doesn't make you so F***ing miserable as soon as you turn up. Useless w@nkers.
I take your point on individual fans, but I thought as a whole we created a lot of noise. Much better atmosphere than Scunthorpe, for example.

Incredible ending but we should have been two or three up by then. Bradford were awful and Whyte needs to be calmer when he shoots. Good performance on the whole but it was looking more and more like Bradford were going to snatch it, which they almost did! Wasn’t Kashi good? He hardly lost the ball all game.

Fantastic result. If only we convert chances then we would make life so much easier for ourselves, and be well up the table. When we went 442'ish we were more dangerous.
The team need to stay focused this week. There is no reason why we cant get a result next week at Coventry. We should take a good away following.
Haven't been to Coventry since they played at Highfield road, 1982 I think. A lot of things fell from the sky but it wasn't water.

How the fans reacted after the win was like we are going to be playing lg one next season ....step one of another 8 steps...in deep shyte still
And why on earth would the fans not react with huge celebrations? Most fans surely would?
Probably need 7 to 8 points from 8 games.
Not safe but a number of clubs are in far greater deep s**t.

Excellent post.

That WAS an extraordinary finish to the game.

My emotions went from frustration that we had failed to win the game, to relief that Bradford missed a sitter, to euphoria when we snatched a last minute winner, to despair when the goal was disallowed, to more despair when I thought a penalty had been awarded, to finally relief/euphoria that the ref had changed his mind again & allowed the goal.

I need a beer.

Couldn't agree less. Considering the season we've had, and comparing the atmosphere to some other games this season, I thought it was a lot more positive than I expected. Of course there is going to be expression of annoyance when we shoot wide for the 27th time, or is your complaint about fans celebrating a bit too raucously?
