International News Russian War With Ukraine

The council elections are coming up, and the policies for the local mainstream political parties are very different to their national policies.
I usually vote differently at council elections.
Still won’t vote the mob we got in know are voting through more house builds permanently making Steventon rail bridge had been turned into single file traffic with giving way going up the bridge, which if you know the bridge will know that giving way going up the hill is crazy as the visibility going over the Bridge is pretty limited. Been in operation 3 months and 3 times the A34 was closed at Marcham so the traffic is filtered of though Steventon and all 3 occasions thetraffic going was backed up right through to Drayton.

Do you ever look at western sources, say BBC, CNN, New York Times, France24 etc? I would watch RT but I'd find what I imagine would be a stream of state propaganda bullshit too much to handle (not that any western news sources are perfect)
I only go to the BBC because they have a great team doing news in Russian.

For the rest, I only read Russian independent media, which they are trying hard to shut down.

What were the views of your countrymen over the news reader protesting?

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but over 100,000 people have registered to take in Ukrainian refugees, now I hope that the checked can be expedited so we can bring them over sooner rather than later.

Opinions are divided approximately in the same proportion as about the war.

For those people who believe that the girl came out with a poster for the money of the West, I'm just ashamed.

BBC news said that no system to match up potential hosts with specific refugees exists as yet, which is going to hold up the process.

I was wondering that as well, if DBS checks are to be done that will take ages. Maybe the government and councils should go into the database of hosts should start checks sooner rather than later so as to bring these refugees over. If need be people can be brought in to help either paid or volunteer.

Putin's propaganda and control is rivalled only by a German dictator in the 1930's...

Stay safe RussianOx, I hope they don't find a way of stopping you watching Oxford games.

I haven’t been to Steventon since last year. I like the pub by the Railway.
If you’re opposed to excessive house building, then the Lib Dem’s or Green’s would be your best bet.

No they’ve voted to allow more to be built even though 3/4!years ago they refused another developer as it said we were losing our village identity. The pub by the railway is the North Star.

The reporter who waved the "No War" sign on State TV has been released with a fine of £210.

In other news - had to load the wagons by hand because someone forgot to charge the forklift. Many hands made light work.
I read it that she got that fine for a video she had made previously and has yet to be charged for the sign on TV.

You do realise the Lib Dems/Greens were forced to accept/adopt the Local Plan, set by the outgoing Tory administration, by the Tory National Govt and hence plenty of large developments they opposed will go ahead.

And what really gets my goat is when politicians appear on TV saying how the U.K. government are at the forefront of all that is going on in terms of helping Ukraine, blah blah blah.

Not only is it utter bollox, but I also find it very disrespectful to the efforts of our European friends and neighbours.
How are you measuring that?

What’s the balance for and against the war amongst the people ?

In simple terms the immediate impact to countries on the border with Ukraine and the work they are doing to accommodate these people.

I am not saying we are not helping, but I am sick of the U.K. government keep telling us we are always leading the way.

It is disrespectful and embarrassing.

Liz Truss made a similar comment this morning.

Does it really need to be said even if it was the case in certain areas? It is not a competition, we are all trying to do our bit.

Yes in south Oxfordshire, but our village doesn’t have the infrastructure and that was why they said 3/4 years ago no more house builds. Why South Oxfordshire were told to accept the local plan is the amount of properties that are needed. I believe it’s 3,500 to be built south of Grenoble road and I’m not sure what’s happening with the airfield at Charlgrove.
Would you want to move to a village but your 3/4!year old having to travel 3 miles to go to nursery/preschool.
These sort of things might seem small but it would be an issue.
Only one shop wouldn’t be adequate enough for why is being planned.
