Ex-Staff Liam Manning

Also anyone get the feeling some of the ' groundwork ' was carried out in the pre season friendly as well as the Cup game soon after ?

I do think if it goes ahead that Manning will actually regret it longer term, maybe not financially but the success he was building here was a rare case of everything coming together at the right time .
That doesn't happen often .
Gutted .
Des Buckingham for me.
I do agree that these moments don't happen that often (possibility of a promotion)
Whist I totally get the huge increase in likely salary and opportunity at Bristol C, at the end of a career looking back at a promotion and all of the supporters of that club that will never forget you, must be a massive positive in a career.

There was a lot of talk about Buckingham first time around - wonder if Manning knows him via CFG and put a word in? Doubt he is someone TW & Co know anything about unless someone put him on their radar. Suspect Waldron is also heavily involved.
I’m sure there was an article on how he’s still very highly thought of within OUFC before Manning god the nod.

James Henry as a Mousish type appointment?
There is something to be said for a totally mental experimental appointment. We're already almost safe from relegation. Why not try something new. Appoint Henry or Cam Bran or Peter Rhoades-Brown to the end of the season.

If they flop, sack again in Feb and bring in a new appointment having courted a few decent managers over Xmas. If they don't flop, and they can replicate "the philosophy" then you've got yourself a cost effective, home grown, loyal manager.

All in time for the next big transfer window.

The more grotty papers had him in the running for the Celtic job so I'm presuming he's more on the map than he was say 12 months ago. This would honestly be my pick of what's out there, the question is do we know about him? He may have to make himself known to us!

Have to continue the style of play and set up. Any Head Coach that comes in needs to continue the good foundations we have created.

Possible managers?

Buckingham the clear choice with his CFG links, style of play, club links.
Luke Williams - success through the pyramid, decent football
Brian Barry-Murphy?

A good test to see if we have succession planning in place on the coach side along with the players, if it does happen.
Sorry, what is CFG?

😂 of course the club know about him. Feels like it *could* be a natural transition to Buckingham, but would need people around him.

If Desmond is unavailable, Leam Richardson would suit the squad imo. Same formations as Manning, a bit more direct in style.

Yeah, seems plausible.

I imagine when they beat us 4-1 in pre-season they were probably still on the fence about taking Manning. But when they followed that up and smacked us 5-1 just 2 and a half weeks later, then that was probably when the penny dropped and they realised he was the right man for them.

What is quite amusing is how people used to slag off Robbo for waggling his a**e at the first club to come knocking, after talking of building something.

Manning has done EXACTLY the same, but because he has a well spoken tone it's somehow less bad.
Nah, what’s amusing is watching people who accuse others of rewriting history to downplay Robinson’s ‘success’ doing the same with Manning. Some people genuinely seem more furious at the thought of this than they were with the guy who set fire to the entire football club. It’s laughable.

And anyway, Manning hasn’t wiggled his a**e at anyone. He’s been approached and if he goes will have done so quickly and without passing endless public comment. Robinson spent literally weeks in front of a microphone when Blackpool came calling in January 2020, flapping his gums on Radio Oxford about how we had to prove we were serious to him, and how we had to act like we could keep up with his ambitions. It was like watching someone flirt with another man in front of their partner like a compete c**t. Then he got his a**e smacked by his boss, told to sit down and shut up, and walked onto the pitch before one of the final games before covid and made an apologetic gesture to all sides of the ground. Or have people chosen to forget that?

If Manning leaves he will have done something Big Karl has never done - been bought out of his contract by a club in a higher division and left his current employer in a much better position than when he arrived.

We will never be a direct team with the players at our disposal (certainly a good one anyway)

Has the football under Manning been that entertaining? Not knocking him as he produced a wing team but I wouldn’t say it was thrilling. Most successful teams are a bit dull for me though.
I think it’s been pretty entertaining compared to the last regime! I think we’ve created more opportunities on average per game than we did under Robinson!

Off of the pitch , in the boardroom . Obviously nothing to do with those meaningless results .

I wouldn't have been against this in the summer. Not now. Totally the wrong style of play for our players.
