Unfortunately this is the dice you roll when you have your #1 keeper be a highly rated, top drawer young prospect that you don’t own.
We’ve reaped the benefits of it over the first half of the season. He has been a joy to watch and has raised the bar tangibly over what we should expect as a keeper in a viable promotion winning team. But, if Brighton think he’ll get regular football at Championship level, then he will be off. There’s not much more to it than that. Unless he’s DESPERATE to stay here (and he seems a level-headed, ambitious, impressive young man who will be as likely to want to challenge himself a league higher to further his development than stay…)
Assume we are already having pretty serious recruitment meetings to cover that pretty realistic eventuality. Or aim to be recruiting pretty exceptional outfield reinforcements to offset the fact that going back to Eastwood as #1 is a step backwards. (That wouldn’t necessarily be a season-ender - Appleton got us promoted with really mediocre goalkeepers - but we would need to improve outfield to offset the reduction in quality between the sticks)
