Still need another central mid. If CB gets injured we’re in big trouble. MM form has been fading and JM struggles to play back to back games let alone 3 or 4 on the bounce.

Definitely a vacancy there unless Smyth is still considered as that 4th option but I really like the progress he’s been making.

I’d imagine Long will soon take over that RCB slot, maybe Negru. Be a shame to see Smyth back on the sidelines but feels like there’s an inevitability about it as he isn’t quite a natural fit like they would be, despite having clear potential there.

Who knows, but I think he’s been excellent and deserves to keep his place until he deserves to lose it, in which case you could certainly justify another midfielder.

If we’re signing wingers I imagine we’ll abandon that five at the back thing? Agree that we need a proper Cam understudy unless it’s Smyth. But he maybe loses the ball too much

I think he was a wide player when playing at Dundee at the same time as Kane Hemmings.

So, sounds like 2nd Charlton bid for Goodwin has been accepted.

And that Cheltenham have what sounds like a fair and reasonable (and transparent) valuation, and Charlton have met it. I now expect us to do the same and then it should all be about terms and ultimately convincing the player.

Make no mistake, if Goodwin goes to Charlton and not OUFC than one of two things has happened:

1. We've been unwilling to pay the going rate in terms of transfer fee.

2. Charlton have made a stronger proposition to the player.

We can compete on fees, and on wages. These shouldn't be an issue.

And we're offering the kid a promotion challenge. This season.

Suspect this will be cleared up this week one way or the other, but wouldn't it be lovely to win a two-horse race against Methven's Charlton?

We saw from Netflix that SD and (by association) Charlie, had no self control when it came to bidding on players. The only way that we wouldn't match Charlton on fees and wages is if they start throwing silly money at their targets.

If that is the case then I hope that we look elsewhere rather than joining in these games.

Of course, some will use that as a reason to blame the club I suppose!

I imagine we'll have other targets and maximum prices we're willing to pay. Charlton are in a position of desperation and backing a manager (love him as we might) who many fans are calling to be sacked. Won't be surprised if they offer more, but also happier to be in our position and sit tight. Goodwin has had a promising season but is far from proven at this level. Looked a very useful player against us, granted.

Let's just get Stokes from Aldershot and sign Marriott on the cheap...
