Ex Player Joel Cooper

Distorted by the losers dropping out of the Prem though. Normal div 2 clubs like Millwall and Luton won’t be paying anything like that. If we did go up we’d certainly be the smallest club there, however.

Callum O'Dowda was on around £7k a week when he left Oxford and that was 5 years ago. Gavin Whyte, Curtis Nelson and Rob Dickie are all around £10k a week. The Championship pays significantly higher than League 1 which is why its hard to keep players who want to progress.

Shodipo is relatively cheap, and I'd be amazed if we're not paying Maguane around the same.

Can’t really blame him for leaving us then!
Nelson signed a contract extension last year and got a pay rise in line with those regularly starting. He was on around £2.5k at Oxford, and £10k on his first contract at Cardiff.

But as you point out, its almost impossible to stand in the way of players who want to progress and the gulf between the two leagues is obscene.

Plus they have larger crowds which helps

Which just goes to explain why Ruffs may well be off to be a benchwarmer for a hell of a lot more money!

Must admit, didnt think we would be seeing him again, of course we are not aware of what his personal issues were for him to go back to Ireland.
Hope he will be able to settle here with us and show what we signed him for.

Good stuff. Hopefully he can kick on.
Yep excellent news. If he comes back with the will and desire and determination, and shows he wants to be here, then good for him.

He will need to earn his place, as I don’t see him as a starter. We need proven wingers, and Joel isn’t quite there yet. He will get better, and develop far more here than back home.

Is a guy from the reserves of a Div 2 club more proven than a N Ireland title winner?
