Club Merchandise

I know The Terrace guys. Have known Carl for probably 12 years or so - he used to promote gigs and manage bands in and around the Banbury and Milton Keynes areas. Paul also works for a merchandising company called Impericon, specialising in rock and metal band merch and urban streetwear. I still work in the music industry myself and am currently dealing with a host of similar licensing deals, centred around bands rather than football clubs. So I know a thing or two about this on a few levels.

Pros: Low risk and essentially ‘money for nothing’ in terms of the workload. The Terrace will handle all manufacturing, distribution and customer service, and the club will then receive a kick back from every unit sold with their name / logo on it. This will most likely be a percentage, ie 25% of the gross sale price on each item. If it’s less than this the club have made a bad deal, but ultimately they just receive a cheque every month / quarter.

Cons: Like all clubs outside the elite they’ve been lazy and let a third party essentially hoover up the merchandising market. They could hire their own merchandise managers and take 100% of the cash for doing the exact same thing and selling direct, which would also give them access to all of the customer data, but like most lower league clubs there will likely be nobody around with any idea what this all means, let alone what it could be worth. The easy thing to do is take a cut of the money someone else makes using your brand equity, but the smarter thing to do is do it yourself and make twice as much.

Essentially, great for fans who want more / better merchandise, and I’m delighted for The Terrace lads who are killing it presently, but still a missed opportunity from another lower league club who don’t realise what they could have.

Went in the shop just there, would love to buy something decent, walked out empty handed..

I ended up with a Boys From Up the Hill t-shirt because I didn't fancy anything else, and with my £10 ST credit it was only a fiver. Wouldn't have bothered full price, though.

Sad thing is, there almost certainly won't be any kind of stock refresh, this'll be it until next season (when you will probably be making a similar post). ??‍♂️

Indeed, it can't be that difficult to have a decent range of t-shirts and tops at the least.

I was disappointed with the boxing day club shop sale, P**s poor

Not surprised the club didn’t put a sale on, on Boxing Day.
The only things reduced were the same things that were reduced b4 Xmas.
Tbh I think they would be mad to start the sale on Boxing Day, all those kids with Xmas money burning a hole in there pocket desperate for oufc merch. I expect in the new year there will be a big sale.

Hope so, we need to drive as much revenue as possible through merchandise.

I'd be surprised if we saw a sale in the new year. A couple of items perhaps, but nothing major. With football retail it works a little bit differently to normal shops anyway, as there'll probably be a sale sometime near the end of May/start of June.

Haven't looked through the online site in a while, but it was interesting to see how little custom OUFC leisurewear there was. Sure, there are quite a few slick Puma items with our badge on it, but I recall there used to be a wider range of assorted items. I'm assuming they just didn't sell in great numbers, otherwise the club shop would be jumping on stocking similar items. You could say 'they didn't look great', I just don't think there are a huge number of people who would regularly buy and wear OUFC leisurewear, not enough to make it viable.

But one thing that seems completely missing from the online shop is hats. Do they still have some in the physical store, and what happened to what looked like a solid retail relationship with Starter?

when we were in the club shop they said they had completely sold out of wooly hats and only had baseball caps.

Maybe demand was high but surely the time you need to have hats and scarves is when its bleedin cold. I tried to buy new as well and was astonished that they were out of stock. I am sure in April they will be plentiful

I don't think I've seen a beanie or bobble hat in the shop all season. I pop in about once a month on a matchday and admittedly could've missed them flying off the shelves. But I doubt it. Last new design I saw was the Yellow and Blue hopped one from mid last season.

The merchandise is rubbish, I wanted the hybrid jacket but no way is it worth £55.

Absolutely P**s poor choice of merchandise, I actually feel it's got worse.

You can’t expect the club to have a vast choice of merchandise, we are a league one football team, but you would think a simple woolly hat would be easy enough, big mark up as well.

Instead of trying to cover a lot of bases the club would be better of focusing on a few big sellers and try to shift plenty of them, the kit, hat, scarf etc.

Nobody has said that, but there is a P**s poor choice of merchandise. It's one of the few revenue streams the club has access to and whoever runs this aspect of our operations is failing big time!

Was sitting watching the 2nd leg of the 86 semi against Villa earlier and would love a retro tracksuit top like they wore that evening.
Loads of clubs have various quality retro gear, I know we have one at the moment but should be lots more.

I see there are 2 more retro shirts being sold, great to see.

Would love a retro version of the 85/86 tracksuit top, that would be fantastic!

one of the two reto shirts is , IMO, the 2nd worst ever OUFC away shirt ( worst IMO that red away shirt !)
