No problem with them in City centres, with the caveat there is a viable, effective and affordable alternative.
If the buses stop at 6.00pm or cost too much then it makes life difficult for many people.

Our local buses now have a "capped maximum" fare of £4.50 a day using a tap on and tap off system which seems to be working.
Unfortunately getting a bus after 6.30pm is very limited. Our nearest service drops to once an hour and finishes at 9.30pm.
Park & Ride buses are electric, £3 a ticket but. again, only run 7am till 7pm and only stop in the City and at the P&R sites!

I`ll reiterate the experience of public transport in Istanbul a few years ago.
70p a journey on boat, tram, train or bus, doesn`t matter if it is one-stop or end to end of the line services start at 5.00am and runs until gone midnight.

Yep, no one goes into the centre of London anymore.
You can get the Underground everywhere, hardly any congestion. London has far far more tourists and is a bigger pull than Oxford. Apart from Students and alumni that might visit/revisit.

Traffic in Oxford will be pushed into other areas, to avoid going through.

Not a problem. I haven't been to the centre of Oxford for years.

Not a problem for me, trains from Bicester Town to Oxford are cheap, frequent and quick, but other places in the county it isn't as straightforward to get in.

If we are going to get emissions under control in the future then schemes like this will end up becoming more commonplace.

there isnt much of significance in the City Centre to warrant the need to visit it these days (IMO)

boarded up former shops and never ending constrtruction sites, with constant road works on the way in (& out) don't have huge appeal for me
