CWC 19 : England V New Zealand CWC Final

Amazing, what a finish. Waited so long for that. Let's win the Ashes now ?

Not sure I’m going to be able to sleep tonight after that - what an amazing match. So many little moments at the end with the ‘catch’ on the boundary, the inadvertent extra four runs during the run-out, the last over, the super over, Archer’s coolness despite the first few balls - unbelievable.

Stokes player of the tournament by a distance.

What a great game of cricket! New Zealand played there part, and I thought Williamson got his fielding selections, the rotation of his bowlers just about as best he could. They squeezed England’s batsmen really well. The two sixes from stokes were massive, but the second very fortuitous. Sometimes you need a bit of luck.

Buttler and stokes partnership was brilliant, they came in when in all honesty England were in s**t street. Unbelievable batting! Stokes Man of the Match for me.

I must admit when the New Zealand batsman clobbered that six in the super over I thought we would lose. Jofra Archer showed great composure, and did exactly what he had to do. New Zealand had to go for the second run, because a tie would lose it.

Great to see us finally win the World Cup in the 50 Over format. I watch a lot of cricket here and abroad, and started thinking we won’t win it, so it’s a great relief to finally see it happen.

One big hope I have coming out of this is, that I hope it will encourage more young kids to take up cricket, rather than chase a dream of playing football.

Congratulations to the boys in blue. ?England!!

now, bring on the Ashes series , & lets win that too :giggle:

Just wow, utterly stunning game of cricket. 2 great teams going at it in the right way.

Ben Stokes was fantastic and Jos Buttler really stepped up. Both of them in the field and batting.

The most surreal moment that whilst potty training my little boy he informs me that he's done a massive poo at exactly the moment we won the Cricket World Cup!!!

I hope to God that we win it again or that will be one hell of a legacy he'll be left with!!!

Will read through this thread at leisure later. Good posting with you lot throughout this World Cup!

I’m stunned. I will not see any match - football, cricket, tennis, whatever - that was as intense, incredible and brilliant as that ever again. A truly extraordinary affair that gripped everyone. Are you watching, ECB? Because the nation was and they saw something and they liked it. Get it back on free to air.

Feel for the Kiwis. It’s cruel to have a ‘loser’ in that scenario. I dare say that a better method than boundaries hit can sort future matches but in the meantime I’ll bask in the glow of watching a brilliant England side entertain us and grab that trophy.

Astounding.

Unforgettable day. Hopefully, with it being shown on free tv, the country will fall in love with cricket again. I grew up watching test matches on tv, it’s a shame that I tried to get my 13 yr old son and partners 12 yr old son interested today but they couldn’t really get a grip of the rules. They both loved the climax though, more than me - I thought I was going to have heart failure!

The game was a credit to both teams, I’ve always had a lot of respect for NZ, I think it was them that lead the way with how modern one day cricket should be played. Aggressive but within the rules of the game.

And I’ll never forget seeing England celebrate on a sun soaked evening at Lords.

*ahem. Apologies for throwing the toys out earlier as well..*

Don't think we will ever see an ending like this again.

It's been an amazing tournament. The amount of games teams have to play make Football look like fussy and childish!

And I echo the comments on here and Twitter, make England games FREE! Even if Sky keep the rights, they should be made to put them on a terrestrial channel.

Bring on the Ashes!

I think the competition certainly improved as it went on. Scores came down, the pitches got more bowler friendly, the games got closer (apart from us against the Aussies :) ) and the entertainment factor went way up. And we still have the Ashes to come!

Yes what was that about England specialising in failure ?

Greatest CWC final ever? Given the occasion, it was the greatest One Day cricket match ever!

Feel sorry for NZ especially Stokes 6 off the bat when he dived and 6 when Boult caught Syokesband git the fence.

This is the only downside to the whole day - that I've grown to rather like the New Zealand cricket team. Seem like a decent bunch of blokes, and they definitely play far above the sum of their parts. Feel sorry for them losing that way.

In that respect, would've been an even better day if it had been India or Australia. Then there would have been none of those feelings.

Wow, what a mental game that was. England got some major luck but you still need to win the game whatever happens. What a wonderful advert for a sport considered to be dull and old. Nothing that exciting in Football or Tennis. 8 or 9 hours of gut wrenching tension and angst

I cannot be any prouder of someone like Archer who showed incredible moxy to bowl that last over. The top 4 almost lost that game for England with some dense batting, but Stokes and Buttler really pulled it off and kept their heads. Stokes played an innings that was a like pay back for the issues he had in the past couple of years. What a team!

Of course, that is an absolute sickener for NZ. They must be gutted to lose like that when they had basically won it but for some bad fielding and a flukey deflection.

I am almost numb, but a nice glass of something very nice is helping.
