Is it illegal then?
The government make the law and so could change it if it isn't but that not the question(s) . The questions are will only paying 80% going rate attract applicant and is it morally right?

Absolutely not, hence my original comment as to why this can have become law.

We may may not like them but nevertheless there is still a subtle difference between complying with the law and making the law, as per your original response.

Paying 80% of the "going rate" is not illegal as long as minimum wage is complied with.

The issue is that "cheaper" workers will make the job last longer to rack up the reduction in income.
Had the same issue 20+ years ago when "cheap" Portugese labour was brought into a place I worked at.
We used to be "job and knock" start at 6.00pm and normally done by 2.00am - until the cheap labour arrived.
Shifts started lasting from 6.00pm until 6.00am which was great if you were on skilled hourly rates, but pretty bad for the Company bottom line.
They ended up levering out the top earners and replacing them with more cheap labour, standards & quality slipped and company folded 3 years later.

No winners in a race to the bottom - unless you were the skilled worker who went from 39 hours a week up to 60 hours. :) :)

And yet you support a Govt that is doing it with the country. ;)

Except they aren`t for the majority.
Hence folk having a massive spend up this weekend, lots of folk jetting off to sunny climes and, in due course, firing up the economy.
I`ve always said I`m small c conservative and the current government are, broadly speaking, getting things right.

And the opposition seems incapable of hitting the open goals from 6 yards without falling over their own laces.

Will be interesting to see the outcome of Starmer & Rayners questionnaires....

I suggest you look at what is actually happening. And you are again using the squirrel of 1 weekend which is a special event for plenty of people.

I do, and look at it realistically.

Probably millions of folk moving around the country, spending money on food, fuel etc etc. its what makes an economy tick..........

How long before the beer and korma allegations are proved and the fine issued?
Is there going to be a leadership battle in the Labour Party?
I’m wondering if Miliband might fancy his chances again

Wow you’ve been itching to post that.

Let’s just turn the page and have a Bulls**t Johnson “nothing to see here” moment and move on shall we? Or is it one rule for the tories and another for labour?
