Ex-Staff Liam Manning

He's only had three good months since the end of the 2021/22 season. He was sacked by MK Dons and that MK Dons side he put together got relegated to league 2. He was on the scrapheap and we have him a chance to continue in professional football and this is how he repays us.
So kind of understandable that he has Carpe'd the hell out of that Diem and taken the opportunity to double/triple his wages when BC came along and triggered his release. . . . .right? It's a funny old game and opportunities to do that are few and far between for most.

If indeed that is what is happening.

He may turn out to be a post turtle in the Championship, or he might turn out to be the English Guardiola (or at least the West Country Eddie Howe) and lead Birstol City to the promised land of the Premiership. . . .who knows?

Got a feeling all will work out well though...for us that is.

Manning is a good manager but he isn't magic

We have great players

We have owners who appear to financially back the club

We have what looks like a promising new home on the horizon

The future's bright, the future is Yellow

Interesting to see that the pre-match preview released for tonight (and hour ago on the OWS) contains a quote from the Chelsea U21 manager fro them....and a quote from Negru for us. Absolutlely nothing from Manning, despite the interview he did yesterday.

Bye bye Liam.
Done in so much of a hurry that not grammar checked- "there are a lot of very good player...' or lost in translation!๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Or pay off Robbo's remaining contract:rolleyes:
The owners will pay off KRs contract- they have deep pockets. So not sure why the compensation for Manning is relevant to this?

If we poach a manager, then we will presumably need to pay compensation

So what you're saying is his stock was previously high with MK Dons and he had them flying high like we are currently, but they missed out in the playoffs. Then it quickly unravelled and he went from hit property to unemployed before getting a job at a club fighting to avoid relegation to League 2. Now he's in the same situation again why on earth wouldn't be move? He knows first hand how quick it can all go tits up pretty lively so why would he turn down a guaranteed move up a level and a presumably huge pay rise?

I've thought about my Emergency Dub post some more...

if Hogg walks in says "I want it, it's mine", I think I hand it to him there and then.

However, if he rocks up late, ums, stutters and is in anyway unsure, I probably mark him as a 'no' before we even talk about an interview.

Hoggy, it's yours if you want it in my opinion, but you best fckng want it!

They're a bigger club than Bournemouth, Brentford or Luton......arguably Fulham too......an ambitious manager might well think they can achieve the same as that lot with Bristol City, if they get it right.
Yet all those clubs have far more honours on record. Bristol City from what I've heard have never won a major trophy, never been in the top flight and only have two league titles in about 130 years. I do agree that an ambitious manager may change their fortunes but City fans have been saying that for 25 years years now and no matter how much they spend on players, how big their wage bill is or how lavish the stadium looks, they never seem to progress and always finish comfortably outside the playoffs or top half.

A young ambitious manager like Manning could easily look at that and think they are walking into a career dead-end even with a bigger salary, higher league and huge crowds. City though for all their positives on paper are one of the plainest and lamest Football League clubs IMO.

The fact he walked in at all is possibly more interesting.

I can just remember Bristol City in the top flight - I think they had two spells. Gerry Gow, Tom Ritchie, jumpers for goalposts, etc etc.

Agree that for a long time they seem to have been in exactly the same place.

So maybe they've realised that their model has been wrong all these years and they now need a new fresh approach.

They've taken one look at that Manning did here and at MK Dons (before it all went to ratshit) and thought that he was the man to deliver that change...especially based on good players already at the club (as he's largely done, with a few tweaks) here.

If we poach a manager, I expect half the posters on this thread will automatically hate him for jumping ship from his last job like a snake.
Yes your right, I wouldn't trust him straight away. Even if he was successful or not. Do it once & he could do it again. No Integrity & behaviours no more
