    Ex Player #36 Jay Matete

You can't have a balanced LB discussion without including Matteo Corbo. Not only did he have ability, but he was amusingly psychotic. A South American Garry Briggs.

    Current Player #16 Tyler Burey

There's no great mystery. He's a talented player who seems to have had 'attitude' issues at every club he's been with, from AFCW onwards. Chances are he'll be in non league in a couple of years unless he works out why an ever growing list of managers and coaches think he's not worth the effort.

    Manager/Coach Des Buckingham

I quite like Smyth. He's got a good passing range, although he's sometimes careless. And he can tackle. Can't be worse than watching MM running round in circles before playing the ball sideways/backwards. And whatever happens, please don't play McEachren.

    Manager/Coach Des Buckingham

I don't think there's any great mystery about MM. He's just not that good. Great technique and balance, but he's a very cautious player, who often plays the wrong pass. He doesn't influence games. Dale has done more for us in six appearances than MM has done in 100+ imo. MM is not a dynamic...

Away Match Day Thread 16/03/24 - L1: Port Vale v OUFC

Can't make too much of that. Better performance, but Vale were very poor. We looked better without McGuane. I've never been a huge fan. Great technique, but seems to endlessly re-cycle ball with 'safe' passes. Baffled by Matete's absence. Came with a decent reputation. Still don't think we'll...

    Manager/Coach Des Buckingham

The Wilder comment is relevant. I saw his first game (Salisbury?). A really average bunch of players, confused by the mediocre Patterson. Immediate improvement. You could see that every player knew what his job was,was holding position, and was fighting for every ball . I've never got that sense...

    Manager/Coach Des Buckingham

I was very supportive of Buckingham until a couple of weeks ago. I'm working abroad a lot atm, so went to my first game in ages (Orient at home). Followed up by Cheltenham on Saturday. I was pretty horrified both times. These are very good L1 players, but they appear to be badly coached. No...

    Manager/Coach Des Buckingham

I don't think you can blame the Board for appointing him. He obviously interviewed very well, he's really well regarded as a coach in the City Football Group (I can't stand them, but they do employ the highest rated coaching 'talent'). But he's obviously really struggled to step up. That's why...

    Manager/Coach Des Buckingham

I've just listened to his interview. I feel sorry for him. Decent bloke, but afraid it's not working. As others have pointed out, two other new managers in L1 with similar backgrounds are doing very well. It's time to cut and close. What a shame.

    Manager/Coach Des Buckingham

Oh dear. I really wanted him to work out. But tonight was just awful. It will cost a lot of money to cut and close. But I can't see him being trusted with a big summer transfer budget. Shame.

    Current Player #16 Tyler Burey

If the (numerous) stories are true, then pretty much every manager Burey has ever had has given up trying to work with him. So you can't blame Buckingham for this one.

Home Match Day Thread 09/03/2024 L1: OUFC v Cheltenham Town

I have AFCW ST mates. Burey was there until 16-17 when he was poached by Millwall. They weren't sorry to see him go. Constant stories that he was very difficult to 'manage' in training etc. Shame, as he's obviously got ability.

    General Fans Forum - Kassam Stadium - 7th March @ 6.30pm

Correct. I've done a lot of business in the Far East over the years. The Oxford 'name' is huge over there and has enormous appeal. Don't underestimate it as a factor in the investment.

    General Fans Forum - Kassam Stadium - 7th March @ 6.30pm

I'd make three points on the ground and investment...1. There is very little chance of the owners getting their investment back, even over 10-15 years. I can only assume it's the Oxford name which is the draw, and is part of a longer term 'legacy' project for the owners. The Bakrie/FIFA theory...

Oxford 0 Wigan 7. Only thing that cheered me up was the look of sheer terror of Tiendalli's face whenever any Wigan player ran at him.

    Chairman Grant Ferguson Interview

Hi- afraid I don't, but I definitely read it somewhere a few years ago- when Thorir was first mentioned. It was something along the lines of he might challenge Infantino one day, and the OUFC project could be part of building up his cred.

    Chairman Grant Ferguson Interview

I listened to all yesterday, and thought he was pretty good tbf. He's not a fool and is very credible. He didn't pretend he could answer the questions he couldn't answer and I thought there was very little bs. I am still pretty baffled about the backers' motivation for all this tbh. There are...

    Ex-Staff Liam Manning

He was leading a large team of people. He obviously misled them all. That is a huge breach of trust. He had a responsibility to all those people he hired and fired.

    Ex-Staff Liam Manning

The fact that Manning got a 3x salary when he decided to run away misses the point completely. If he was a coach or player etc. then good luck to him and off you go. But he wasn’t. He was the manager. He’d presumably told everyone he was in it for the long term, recruited players, hired staff...
