it depends who you’re with...I play for a Brazilian team in the Houston league and we all say football. However I play part time for a more US origin team and they call it soccer.

Amongst my Texas friends I will say football or soccer depending on who it is....

I’ve made the mistake of coming home though and seeing friends at the pub and dropping the “s” bomb. I got hammered!
Soccer is just an old-fashioned term for football and doesn't really bother me tbh!

All the US sports are over-commercialised shite, that's the biggest problem over there!

My take is 'soccer' has never been anything more than a nickname similar to 'rugger'. Soccer has never appeared as an official name in the sport...

FIFA, UEFA, The Football Association, The Football League etc...

'Soccer' is a contraction of 'Association Football'. If Americans want to use the phrase for clarity over there, then that's up to them. I'd certainly never use the word.

He apparently has an underlying health issue as well as the groin. One that medical staff aren't over worried about but explains his recent poor form. They didn't say what it was but "it's not as alarming as cam's eye problem". So will be out for a while.
Yes KR pointed this out before the game and I posted it on here. I guess the match thread is so busy many posts don't get read!
He said its something they have 'discovered' this week and the backroom staff can deal with it through nutrition etc. They are not too worried as you say.
Hope AG gets fit and sorted soon.

Indeed we do Tim, but my feeling is that our recent form and our slow start has made the task incredibly difficult. That is not to say it is not impossible but my personal feeling is that we are not quite there.

Reasons :-

Our recent form has just not been consistent and we have slipped points as a result, although Henry’s return was a real positive for me last night, so who knows.

You say we have 27 points to play for. My gut feeling is we would need 6-7 wins out of the last 9. Given the run in maybe not insurmountable, but nevertheless still a huge task.

You also forget the teams around us. A couple have 36 points to play for and a couple have 33 points to play for, yet only the odd point separates us.

Our goals per game has to get right back up there to when we had our excellent purple patch.

I will remain ever hopeful, but my gut feel is one of just missing out. However, if we pulled it off it would mean our form going into the playoffs would have to be in the top 2-3, which would be a good omen.

Looking forward to see how Sunderland plays out.
Apart from a tough Sunderland game we have the easiest run in with most opponents playing for nothing - we probably need about 24 points last 11 games - doable

18 from the last 9 games gets us to 74 points. That's probably the minimum required.

Seeing Plymouth take points off Blackpool, Gills off Hull and Wimbledon turning over Northampton pretty much shows how tough it is going to be for us.

🙏🙏
In a way isn’t it a good thing? We may have dropped points recently but so will others. Any win is precious

Ricky, Ricky, Ricky...I've lived in the States mostly since 1981 and for me there's only one term--it's football, the game in which you predominantly use your feet to play, unlike the American bastardization.

OK, admittedly I have to add "REAL football" so that my American friends don't get too confused, but most of them know me well enough to know what I'm talking about. I've also converted several to being fans of the mighty Yellows, known throughout N. Carolina as the greatest football team the world has ever known.
nice to hear of good missionary work, well done

Agreed that it certainly keeps us all in the mix, and given the choice I would have taken our run in over some others.

We have to really be on it for the last 9 games and who knows what may happen.

A win against Sunderland might just be what we need.

Enjoyed that to be fair.
Their goal was super soft but aside from that they didn`t really look like being able to "hold" a result, a bit like us really!!
I`m not sure we have the consistency to get enough points and maybe that is the problem.

That`s because nobody else could use it! lol
Luckily Sky games get thrown in the stream so hesgoal came up trumps for many!
Yes. hesgoal worked for me. About 20 mins from the end The Sky/iFollow took over.

What a great performance. What a difference having a bit of creativity in midfield makes.

There were two teams one in Yelow and one in Red and white. Marty Taylor scored a rebound from their keeper with his left foot the build up was down to Jakes Henry taking the ball of their player and a sublime cross met by Syuesnwith a great header but parried by their keeper only for Matty to score. And we saw the game out pretty well. Shame you missed the 2nd half.
Red and white bazzer, what game were you watching, I seem to remember them wearing black.
