Is there not some stupid rule that X amount of players from the previous league game have to start?

Or just bung on the kids, risk the fine then qualify by a series of freak results. :)

Attendance - sub 1k.

Not that I know for certain ... it is the EFL who call the shots... but, wasn't it changed this seasons competition allowing anyone selected for the previous/ or previous few matchday squads, whether they played or not, were eligible to play in PJT games ? ... there again I may have imagined that!

Did anybody take up the free ticket offer for this game I didn’t I really would rather watch paint dry than watch an u21 or whatever it is play against our first team

A good move if it was changed, it was certainly there in years gone by. I can remember Luton getting a fine for putting their kids out against a PL U21 side and stuffing them, but getting the fine for playing 'a weakened side'. It was always a joke rule given the whole reason we were told PL U21 sides were going to be playing was to nurture young talent.

I genuinely wouldn't go if I was paid to go. Totally against the comp since the inclusion of U21 teams. I couldn't support a tournament ruined by that greedy rat Harvey. Only way it will change is if fans completely turn their back on it.

Even though we lost that is one of my favourite OUFC matches. Red away kit, took the lead, got on MOTD, Les Phillips MOTM, jumpers for goalposts ...
Well apart from the taking the lead part, we went 2-0 down before pulling 1 back, then had a right go at them before Gascoigne scored twice more. We actually played pretty well that day for long periods. Les Phillips was indeed awesome.

I think we can safely say Gazza "bossed it" that day.

For the kids....
That clip didn't show the Nayim dive, right in front of us trying to con a penalty - one of my most vivid memories of that day, it happened right in front of us. Cheating a**e.

I still feel an occasional sadness about this competition. I know it was always seen as a joke when it was the old format, but it was our joke that we shared with other lower league clubs. The shift in importance as you got to the latter rounds was pretty massive and it could become such an added bonus to the season. I remember the wins against Millwall in 2016, we got a gate over 10k at home, a great atmosphere and it meant a day out at Wembley.

Now the whole thing is just a big steaming pile of poo. It was never that special to begin with, but at least it belonged to the lower leagues.

Now it's just an inconvenience and a reminder of another way money has ruined football at all levels. EFL bastards.

Totally agree. We're in as good a position as anyone to realise how it's been ruined. As you say, the comp was always the least important but when we got to the final first time, the trophy still had plenty of credibility. The final vs Barnsley was a great occasion and despite losing, it was a good game and a good day. Compare that to the very next year when we got to the final and played Coventry. Again it should have been a great occasion but I bet a lot of people reluctantly attended that day and didn't enjoy it at all. The comp had been completely tarnished and has been ever since. A real shame.

One of the sad things about the Coventry final was seeing Oxford fans falling out about whether they should go or not. Fans should never feel conflicted about going to watch their team, especially in a final at Wembley, yet that is one of the outcomes of the change in format.

Yes, it was all very unpleasant.

I could swear we went 2-1 up? We did play well and it was a real pleasure to watch Gascoigne and Lineker.

thought the actual result was Spurs 0 Oxford 2 Gazza 4 - gazza was at his best then

I spoke to Ken Vasey ( our keeper that day) a few days after that game.... he told me just before the FK that Gazza curled into the corner, Gazza caught his eye and told him/ gestured where it was going to go, of course it went straight in, the ref made Gazza retake it, Gazza gestured the same place again, Ken moved a step closer along his goal line, Gazza hit it so hard n fast Ken V, despite knowing where it was going, was beaten by sheer power n pace.

A lot of Oxfords travelling support were thrown out for basically nothing at that game, ( swearing being one chucking out offence) ... I asked a copper what was and wasn't acceptable if, say , I disagreed with a refereeing decision, I was told' you'll be alright if you call him a rascal, anything else will get you escorted out '
