General Emergency Goalkeeper

David Leworthy signed Christmas Eve 1985 after last issues of Oxford Mail had gone to press and Radio Oxford had a lot less sports desks. Obviously no email, internet or social media in those days.
We played Southampton at home on Boxing Day and nobody in the ground had any idea who our number 9 was, which wasn't helped by the PA system not working either. He scored two goals as we won 3 - 1 and we only found out who he was listening to Sports Report on the way home! - https://www.rageonline.co.uk/mainpage/fixture/1985-12-26/

It's the information age isn't it - we all now expect to know everything immediately; it's impossible that we might not know about a signing until the teams are announced.

Well, I can still remember the Mike Salmon game. I think I arrived a little late.....I certainly didn't hear the teams being announced over the tannoy.
So I got to "enjoy" the worst ever goalkeeping performance by an Oxford player without knowing who the ****er was until I read the paper the following morning!

Well if Truman scores two for us I will be thrilled 😁
Or if he plays a blinder and keeps a clean sheet I will also be thrilled

I still think it’s madness playing this game.

As someone pointed out Harrogate postponed 3 games earlier in the season. I don’t see why we couldn’t do the same.

Lose a game tonight could be the difference for top two, or top six!
