It's a shame Great Brillo TV aren't hosting it, which they surely should be allowed to do after the audience for GBTV News stabilised at 52,000 viewers (per episode) in the last week of June*.

*For clarity and comparison: an episode of Hi-de-hi on the 'Drama Channel' had 297,700. Both figures from Broadcast Magazine through Private Eye.

Ahh....yeah....but.....all 297,700 of those Hi-de-hi viewers can technically be counted as GBTV viewers because the only reason they are watching Hi-de-hi is it reminds them of the halcyon days of Britain at it's finest....and GBTV is leading the crusade to take us back there.

SO IN YOUR FACE LEFTY SNOWFLAKES!!!

The commentary by Matterface *was* awful though. He had quite obviously written down a load of 'witticisms' which he then shoehorned into the commentary whether what was happening on the pitch deserved it or not. I normally mentally tune the commentator out, but he veered between the banal and the ridiculous wildly enough for me to mention it to Mrs ZtH (who was sat there watching possibly the second football match of her life. She was using Ebay on her laptop at the same time though, so perhaps it doesn't count!).

It'll be the Beeb for me on Sunday.
Glad it's not just me - I've found myself shouting at the TV when he commentates, rather than just watching the game (Robbie Savage has the same effect on me). You're exactly right - Matterhorn (just for EY that one) seems to have scripted a bunch of supposedly ad-hoc comments and wedged them in at every opportunity. I used to hate John Motson for the same reason and for the added fact he was a well known sex pest at the BBC!

Oh for the likes of Brian Moore, Bryon Butler, Peter Brackley or even Barry Davies. Definitely not the equally execrable Clive Tyldesley.

Such a dilemma for the Bellendary that run things....

Put up with the #deepwoke on ITV

or the hateful lefty snowflakes including that mouthy commie t**t Lineker on the (funded by the taxpayer) Beeb

What an awful choice for the poor dears

Watch the actual game on the Beeb but before, half time and after watch ITV. Problem solved although if Klinnsman is on the Beeb that makes it harder as he is pretty good.

They'd have to turn all the stadium lighting off for GB News to host it.

Best pundits / comms this euros are Emma Hayes, Klinnsman and Keown.. Alan Shearer is borderline

The rest are dreadful.

I like Roy Keane's utter grumpiness, Gary Neville is fine and Ally McCoist with the right commentator is decent enogh as long as it isn't a Scotland game. Also Jermaine Jenas is alright as well.

Agree with your comments about all those youve mentioned, bar one.... I don't particularly like Jenas' input

Forgot about Ally! Him and Tyesdale? Work really well together.

Jenas and Murphy are dreadful.

Keane and Neville, ok in small doses. Micah Richards tries to hard to funny when he’s not!

Jenas was the only one to notice Kane's foul before the penalty shout on him. Also, he noticed that Schmeichel tried to catch the penalty which meant it spilled out back to Kane which the others missed.

Jermaine Jenas, don't get me started.........

I'm not sure he tried to catch it - it was such a poor penalty that he got too far across and then couldn't push the ball away from goal.

Oh I thought the Tories hated the BBC. Or do you want to defund it yet still have it there to watch football on?

I would rather the likes of Lineker weren't paid £1.4 million while elderly folk are stopped from having a free licence but there we go.
Maybe I`m more socialist-conservative than you seem to think......

Matterface went full Partridge after the Kane goal.

Compare what he said (04.30ish) ...

With Steve Coogan's most famous character (0.17) ...

It's been an odd battle between the BBC and ITV this year. BBC have a fine range of commentators - Guy Mowbray, Steve Wilson, Simon Brotherton and some equally good ones on 5Live too. ITV's haven't stood out with the exception of the terminally irritating Matterface and the nostalgic Clive Tyldesley. Punditry wise, ITV have won for me easily. Neville, Keane, Emma Hayes and Ally McCoist have been good. Robbie Savage tried to play the partisan pundit but came across as mega annoying. Danny Murphy on the BBC is so downbeat and flimsy on the basics. He has that annoying sneer whenever a commentator has done some homework too. Look, Danny. I have a limited knowledge of this Slovakia side - if Steve Wilson wants to let me know who the right back who delivered a decent cross plays for and how many games he played last season, let him tell me.

Good commentators are like good referees. You know they've done a good job when you don't notice them. Barry Davies was the master of that as he knew when the game needed moments of silence. John Motson should have retired from the BBC years ago. From 2000-onwards, he couldn't keep up with play and sounded like a malfunctioning football stats robot by the end. 'It's goin- oh - oh I say - it's a goal.! For Portugal. And that's Ronaldo's third goal of his international career when scoring against a goalkeeper who is a Libra and plays domestically in Turkey. I say!
