General Yesteryear

It was an old-style classic, you can't not like it. Here's the video, what an atmosphere:
Anyway, watch the other video and you'll find we win on aggregate!

Can we please stop talking about that game. Weather was horrid, pitch was a typical Sunday league pitch, to cap it all we were kept in after the game to stand in the rain get wetter and avoid the numerous missiles thrown at us from the locals in the alley behind the Milton End.
A recurring nightmare,..........................Need hypnosis to erase it from the memory..

Playing an innovative 4-3-2 formation. I have no memory of this McLaren?

ON THIS DAY

January 9th 1982

With much of the league programme decimated due to what was dubbed by the media as ‘ The Big Snow of 1982 ‘
Huddersfield Town’s pitch was somehow deemed playable. It was to be United’s first league game in a month

As a result of the pitch inspection, the Match of the Day production team and commentator John Motson
were hastily despatched to a freezing Leeds Road. It was so cold, U’s stopper Roy Burton wore tracksuit bottoms.

Ian Greaves’ United were poor though and the MOTD viewers that Saturday night witnessed goals from Dave Cowling and Malcolm Brown
in an easy 2-0 home win for the promotion chasing Terriers.

U’s: Burton - Doyle Briggs Shotton Fogg - Berry Jeffrey Thomas Smithers - Foley Cassells
Sub:Mark Wright

Att: 7,070

Great player and what a gift he left us with in scoring in the Leeds game. I remember the Leeds stewards being utter t**ts that day and goading us after Leeds equalised in injury time. I also remember one lone Oxford fan windmilling 3 Stewards (the fan was winning that particular set to) that had obviously got in his face with the equaliser. The Police were clearly angry at the stewards and sent them away which was disappointing when Jimmy got the winner as we could have celebrated in their face instead.

And my middle daughter was being born on the same day.

Briggs was a month away from his 30th birthday but then manager Brian Horton was keen on bringing his ex-Luton
team mate Steve Foster to the Manor. Foster was 31 almost 32 when he was signed in the summer of 1989.
