Away Match Day Thread +++ 18/01/20 Gillingham v OUFC L1 +++

Wow, the moaners are a go on Rad Ox... Perhaps some perspective is needed there
I’ll give you perspective we haven’t won a league game since we beat the Wimbledon we only picked up two points out of 9 we as fans think our team is good enough to get us promoted and it is one of the better teams in our league but at the moment we’re playing s**t not playing the way that got us in the top 7 of this league KR needs to sort it out and get the team playing the way that done us good early in the season

An absolute moron of an Oxford fan in front of me with a group of his not quite as moronic mates.

He got there late, high on coke, stood in front of an old man the entire game (who was forced to stand up the entire time despite being pretty frail) then spent half the first half slagging off our own fans for not singing enough.

Then obviously left 5 minutes before half time; came back for more of the same. Then spent most of the second half slagging off the stewards and goading the police to arrest him 5 minutes before the end. Said he “got his tickets from Mackie” so if that’s the case makes Mackie’s performance today even more criminal.

Not a bad point but disappointing as Gillingham were pretty poor and don’t think they’d have scored without a pen.

It’s extremely worrying that Karl Robinson continues to start Mackie over both Taylor and Agyei. They are both miles better than him. I honestly don’t know what Mackie brings to the team. It’s clear to see that Karl Robinson has favourites and chooses his team based on who he likes rather than ability. In the 30 minutes Agyei played today, I was extremely impressed with how well he holds up the ball with his strength, he’s got good ball control and pace. Agyei needs to get the opportunity to lead the line for a few matches, he’s never had a fair chance to lead the attack. Our team are at risk of missing the playoffs unless he bucks up his ideas

I think we will push on in February. A few more signings to come in this window and key players coming back from injury should see Oxford establish themselves as a promotion contender. Only Rotherham have a better squad in this league than Oxford. Everyone would've taken this position at the start of the season.

Indeed, don't disagree. But the perspective is we have 5 big players out with injury and they are influential ones in terms of how we play. The squad is stretched at the moment, so it's natural for us to go through some down form against a team in good form. No need for the knee jerking IMHO.

2 points out of 12 since Wimbledon actually. Not good enough, relegation form rather than promotion. Only good thing to take out of today is I can't see us being relegated this season.

Very frustrating result today, and looks like other results went against us. We really should of won today. Yet again we failed in front of goal, but they had some chances too.

I think Browne should of started, and would of given us more threat going forward.

I think the penalty was a pen, and can’t fault the referee today. Poor from Gorrin, and Hanlon was always going down.

I was frustrated that Nathan didn’t ask about any possible incoming transfers. We did hear a week or two ago that there might be further activity after this weekend. However, according to one caller the rumours are that outgoing loans have been put on hold because the money isn’t there to bring people in. Not sure where he heard that but he did make some other good points. Also Robinson only spoke today about the squad being improved when the injured players return, as opposed to new players, which was a change of tack from previous interviews.

Having said that, people - including me - have criticised him from saying too much about transfer activity. So we can’t have it both ways! Maybe he’s being more cagey now ?

Firstly, it's 2 points out of 12! And we're far from shite! We've had a run of injuries and lost form over the last couple of months but have still picked 12 points out of 8 games. Not good enough, but 1.5 points a game will keep us in a decent position once we get a settled side back.

We've got Brannagan, Henry and Taylor to come back in, and Browne in particular will only get better. Holland has plenty to other once he settles, plus we've still got business to do in the next couple of weeks.

That's having a little perspective!

2 points out of 12, we lost against Doncaster, Rotherham, drew against Ipswich and Gillingham.

How do you know he was "high on coke"?

The idea that money isn't there for incoming players is frankly insane!!! We will do more business but it's a case of getting the right players at the right price. I'd be surprised if a player (or 2) doesn't come in this week with hopefully another (or 2) in the last few days of the window. And none of them will be on the cheap.

I've definitely moved into the "Mackie's not offering enough" camp now. If he'd got big Steve sent to the stands I might have wavered, but I'd rather he was getting onto the end of balls, and not losing them in tackles. Agyei's control of the fast ball forward was far superior.

I hope youre right, the squad definitely needs a boost. Do you envisage loans or permanents? I really think we need to push the boat out for an experienced, reliable striker, signed on a good 2-3 year deal to give everyone a lift and maybe restore a little faith that this can be our year.

At the start of the season Sykes was about to be sent out on loan, responded and now is featuring more. Perhaps Agyei, another young player learning the game, will do likewise.
