International News Covid-19 .....

The UK, France, Italy and Spain are running fairly close, depending on which specific you look at, Germany are making a late surge for a play off place.

Saw a BBC piece on how the Israeli`s are cracking on with it in terms of testing and vaccinating.
They reckon everyone will have had their first shot in 2 months although a population of under 10 million makes things a bit easier.
Red herring alert!!!
Larger countries should have a larger health workforce so size shouldn't matter!

Numbers and logistic`s alert.

Jabbing 10 million folk twice = 20 million.
Jabbing 66 million folk twice = 132 million.

There are 1.4 million staff in the NHS - the majority of which you would want sticking a needle in you.

If @Sarge had singled out a black Toty MP and compared them with a monkey that would have been racist and i would have called him out. he didn't. You did.

Sarge made the generic comparison of some places being so pro Tory people being prepared to vote for a monkey with a blue rosette. In response you mentioned a Black Labour woman MP. I consider that out of order. i'm surprised anyone would defend it, to be honest.

Unfortunately I don’t bat an eyelid at this sort of thing anymore. Something will happen or something will be said, and there’ll be some sort of propaganda style campaign waged, which makes millions of people forget all this and get worked up in their favour come next polling day. They are specialists in arson, distraction and manipulation. They could get a million people killed through covid while giving the entire state pension fund away to Dido Harding, and drown everybody’s pets in front of them for good measure, and they would still wave a red rag when the time comes and sway an awful lot of people to vote for them based on some insane single issue.

I live in hope and maybe this will stick in people’s minds longer than I think, but I feel pretty confident that even the members of the blue brigade who are finally realising what a shambles they are will move on pretty quickly. As soon as it’s largely over and they feel they’ve got their life back they’ll be right back on their bullshit.

I think this and the aftermath will stick long in people’s memories.

There will always be those who never change their party vote come what may (across all parties) and those that will either be swayed or otherwise abstain from a vote.

I reckon this is likely to be more about what KS can offer moving forward. If he fails to gain any momentum moving on from all of this and pretty much becomes a non electable “Corbyn“ then you are probably right, it will be business as usual.

At least the economy held up well even at the expense of all this.

Oh.

Also, numerous other countries are testing more than us (Denmark and Israel are currently testing the most per capita I believe, as two examples) and France is about the same as us, yet we’re finding infinitely more positive cases.

Depressing and embarrassing isn’t it.

I think that had more to do with being a part time politician parachuted in to replace KV.

Didn't even consider a racist angle because it was just not there. That comment would have equally held up had it been anyone else parachuted in..

I think you need to have a look at yourself.

What do you think the word “ones” refers to in this sentence, holdsteady?

I normally ignore you, but it's so obvious that the description refers to the colour of the rosettes worn by various candidates. The description of an "untrained monkey" has no racial connotations, except in your mind.

The BLM thread shows that there are still work to do to address racial imbalance (to varying degrees depending on your view), but inventing racism where none exists is just as damaging as true racism.

No, what EY did was mention a local MP in his immediate area to make the point there are areas that would vote Labour no matter what, it is common knowledge that he is situated in Leicester. Nothing more in this.

wow shocked by so many people who seem untroubled by the association of a Black Woman MP with a monkey.

I'd have hoped that in the current environment decent people would want to avoid any unfortunate juxtaposition even if it were unintentional

I really hope that's a typo - the wife's sister works in the NHS and if she was on sticking duty, I think I'd take my chances with Stevie Wonder......

I guess it's unlikely that Danny Agyei or Jordan Obita are going to be reading the Covid thread but I cant imagine that they would be happy with what was written.

I don't see why Essex yellows singled out Claudia Webbe come to that -

Blimey - you love to be outraged don’t you - taking 2 and 2 to make the 5 that gets you triggered.

How do you avoid it if it’s unintentional? That is illogical.

If you look through the BLM thread you will see that I'm exceptionally sensitive to the views of minorities, but you position is insane.

The comment was made about trained monkeys, one that is often used to suggest that a task/role needs little competence. Perfectly reasonable comment that has no racial connotations whatsoever. The fact that this was linked to either political party (blue/red rossettes) was to highlight political strength in certain areas. People have made the same point by referencing various animals and a tub of lard in the past, all without question and all perfectly reasonable.

Then EY repeats the point and uses his local MP as an example. There was no reference to her colour, her gender, her background, her culture or any individual characteristic that could be used to show prejudice in any way.

The only prejudice shown is your ridiculous accusation of racism, and even worse to suggest this is also an attack on two black Oxford United players. This is shameful and completely undermines legitimate concerns.

I won't reply any more as this will only give you an opportunity to make further comments that embarrass you and the forum. Back on ignore, and I'd encourage others to do the same.
