Matches 23/24 Fixtures

Urgh. Cambridge away to start the season (again).

At least we’re home on Boxing Day!

Personally gutted as Reading away is the same day my sister is getting married. (Literally the one Saturday I couldn’t do - always the way). So hoping TVP move that to a Friday or Sunday (sorry to everyone who would clearly prefer a 3pm Saturday KO 😉)
The Reading away could be switched

Away first game and away last game seems a bit wrong, for some reason I thought you could only be away once in those two games.

Mixed bag, Reading away on the international weekend will probably be moved to midweek as they will have some obscure u19 internationals who never actually play, would never of been a 3pm kick off but it would of been nice at the weekend.
Xmas is decent with a home game on Boxing Day and Derby home on the Friday 29th, Northampton away on December 23rd means Xmas can be what it’s really for, football, although Charlton away on New Year’s Day isn’t going to be doable on public transport so it’s drive if you want it.

Leyton Orient away on a Saturday should be fun, Blackpool in February is a cold old town for a weekend away, the missus has never forgiven me for when I treated her to that one the season Garbutt got the winner.

Good opening six fixtures that. Derby and Barnsley away, is good get a couple of draws there, and we have lift off.

I fancy us to get at least 14 - 16 points from them first 6 games.

Portsmouth home also international weekend I think so that also could be subject to change

Wigan and Bolton away on a Tuesday night. Good job EFL, good job......

What‘s wrong with that ? It’s L1 not the National south and north whatever you call it. It’s a bit small time to moan at northern away games in midweek, maybe Oxford City might have a moan at fixtures like that but surely not a L1 club.

Woof, not keen on those fixtures but we've got 2 good home games over Xmas so I'll take it.

On paper, the first two look as comfortable as they come. The team who avoided relegation by one place (admittedly we weren’t much better) and the team who scraped through the play offs from L2 having a long trip down to Oxford. How anyone can moan at those two I don’t know.

Away first and last games is a bit unfair, surely? And, Carlisle away in January - that's going to be a cold trip! Shame that Derby away is an evening game, was looking forward to a stop over at the Holiday Inn with a curry post game at the place opposite the hotel. Still, home on Boxing day and some good away days thrown in.

Have you seen our record at Cambridge ?

I’ve seen two wins at the Abbey in around 16-17 matches :(

Charlton away will be do-able ( unless strikes, engineering work ) as trains run NYD .

I like those first 6 fixtures, as it will get us playing at a high level straight away, and if we can get the nuts and bolts of our squad in place early, and with more intelligent people planning our preseason, we should be in good knick going into those games.

If we can hit the ground running, get some good results in those first 6 games, then it will set us up nicely moving forwards into the next 6 fixtures, which on paper should be a lot easier, so as long as we start well, pick up plenty of points in the first 6, then storm the 2nd 6, we could be in a very strong position and in full flow, going into what looks like a very tough October/November period.

Dec/Jan looks a bit of a mixed bag, with some tough fixtures, but with lost's of points up for grabs as well, in some easier looking games, so hopefully we can get to the end of Jan still in a strong position, having strengthened again in the January window, ready for the 2nd half of the season.

Feb/Mar looks like we'll have some consistently tough fixtures, but hopefully with reinforcements brought in in January, we'll be able to keep getting good results, and picking up plenty of points, ready for the April run in, which (except Peterborough) looks pretty straight forward.

When you look at the teams in league one this season, and considering Wigan are a mess and will be losing key players, and will have a big points deduction, and Reading are also a mess, if we can bring the right players in this summer, there's every reason to be very optimistic about our chances this season.

Getting excited now!

COME ON YOU YELLOWS!!!
