Current Player #15 Fin Stevens

I suppose you still say Ruffs is a centre mid even though he has played left back for god knows how many years now!

Long is a right back who can cover CB. As he gets older and is more defensive then yes he can play in a back 3 and do a good job but he is 1st and foremost a right back.

I would say that although Long is nominally a centre back, he has also played successfully at both left back and right back.

Finley “Fin’’ Stevens with the obligatory U’s tee.

He has played the majority of his professional football at right back….

Hey I was only going along with what the club have put on his official player profile on the official website.

Maybe you should get in touch with them and tell them they're wrong? 🙂

Who, Long? I would say his best position is centre back in a 3 regardless of where Robinson played him.

Or of course you may mean one of the other right backs that Robinson had there - take your pick from McNally, Williams, Forde, Sykes, Hanson... Seddon. The list of right backs we've had at right back over the past few seasons is endless!
I actually think people's opinions of Long would be better if he played more at CB, he is solid there, but too often played at RB. He did have that one moment of brilliance at Argyle away but isn't a good enough RB for League one.

Fin Stevens says in his interview that he can play right back, left back, right wing back or centre mid. Is anyone complaining that he's not a REAL RB?

Of course not. Because he's a RB that is versatile. As opposed to a Right Winger with no defensive skills being asked to play RB or an incredibly one footed LB being asked to play RB etc.

But you knew that. You're just being deliberately facetious because you're still smarting that KR (and you, by implication) got called out for being the charlatan that he is.

Yep, you know so much about me!

And congratulations on mentioning Robinson 500 times more than I have since February!

I wonder if Sam Long will get a couple of pre-season games at centre back, replacing Findlay.

Well, since he's a centre-back who's been played as a right back for 3 years, it's about time. Far from the worst centre-back in the team.

You were badly wrong on Robinson, and when anyone calls you out on the fact, you play the "obsessed with Robinson" card.

If I was designing a League One team with the sole aim to make Sam Long perform as well as possible though, I’d definitely play him as the right hand sided centre back of a back three, rather than a right back in a four…

The same Robinson that left nearly 6 months ago? Yes, it is bordering on obsessive for those that mention him in every thread.

Don't forget Super Djav!

@SirAndyOfCrosby

I’ve just used the advance search function to see how many times you’ve made a post that includes the word “Robinson” since February 26, when he was sacked. This covers a period of 17 weeks and 5 days. I’ll round this up to 18 weeks since I know you’ll be too busy painting your little Warhammer figures to post for the next couple of days.

The search returns any posts you’ve made where you directly typed the name “Robinson”, as well as any posts where you quote somebody who has done the same.

Twelve posts came up. This means that you’re running at approximately 0.67 posts per week directly containing the word “Robinson”. I won’t pass comment on how that compares to any other poster on this forum, because I know that you hold yourself purely to your own personal standards. You’re a singular figure. You’re a champion.

That said, if you could stop ruining this thread about a promising young signing who plays in a position we’ve had basically no depth in for the past three and a half years, and who looks a bit of a coup on paper, that would be great. We’re trying to build a more positive and inclusive Oxford United community. Do better. Be better.

Welcome, Fin!

People don't forget the fact you backed him until pretty much the end, even when it was OBVIOUS it was going to sh!t, you should learn from it. Maybe some of us need to be more positive but sometimes you really come across of lacking realism, and also happy to bash others for being negative even when they are calling out things that need calling out.
