I think everyone is getting a bit caught up on the 'release fees', whether that be Manning, Buckingham or whoever. In most cases they've been rumoured once and taken as gospel (like a lot of rumours on here). They probably just refer to an amount that a club would be willing to accept, or the outstanding value of the contract owed to the manager.

In either case, it won't count against of profit-and-loss balance (or FFP or whatever it's called). If the board have conducted a thorough interviewing process, have found their man and are happy to fund getting them, then I'm happy.

The new regime are so much better at keeping things confidential. Previously we’ve known contract length and even salary but now we merely hear “long term” deal. I don’t believe even those that think they’re itk have the slightest idea. It’s fun to speculate but we really have no idea how much we got for Manning and how much we’re going to pay out.

Agree, i read that as our new manager (despite it being a head coach!) rather than their current manager. For me the only thing that is definitive from that headline is that its not Eustace (or anyone else currently out of work). It in no way means its Des. If there is a release clause for DB unless its negotiable I would think it actually means its more likely someone else.

I think some of us are reading far too much into this quote given the OM's reputation for fact-checking and grasp of the English language.

This was before Crofts name was mentioned it even in the betting odds, and was also going against the speculation with Williams.

I’m not saying I know what’s going on as I truly believe it’s a very very small circle that do, but I’m only passing on what I’ve heard

Take it with a pinch of salt, but I’d imagine based on this info, signed and finalised today announcement tomorrow?

A-League is provably League 1/League 2 level so don’t know where you are getting that from & he did great with a s**t New Zealand national side . So wouldn’t be paying 100’s of thousands for just anybody would we.

I agree. I was told Buckingham but who even knows anymore. Market means very little tbh, but would be very ironic if we do what Bristol City did to us & us fans have been so loud about what he did. Also Williams saying he had no contact wouldn’t do him any favours either.

The Cutteslowe woman quote got me thinking about lack and cost of housing in and around Oxford, and the impact it will undoubtedly have had on recruiting our next manager/coach.

It’s well documented that it’s nigh on impossible for the club to get players to sign because they can’t afford to live nearby.

The same applies for managers who let’s face it are paid considerably less than players. McCarthy and Croft are only being considered because they could commute from London and Brighton respectively.

Williams couldn’t afford to move from his detached 4 bedroom abode in Nottingham to a bed sit down the Abingdon Road, so didn’t even bother with an interview.

We have however struck lucky with Buckingham, apparently he can move in with his aunty who still lives in Cowley.

Despite all this, for our Des the lure of Oxford is strong.

Not sure I’d be really for that situation considering he ruled himself out & it’s the reason we got so pissed off with manning, I know it’s football and these things happen but surely he would of been better to say, yes there was contact but I’m not interested if that was the case.
