Manager/Coach Des Buckingham

How's his record stacking up against Appleton's?

No idea. Appleton didn’t take over a team in second so you’re not comparing apples with apples. It’s ridiculous when people say their records are similar - if indeed they are. From their respective starting positions, I’d expect Des’s record to be massively better than Appletons.

Irrelevant. What have respective starting positions got to do with it?

I'd expect Des record to be better, if he had the same personnel available to him that Manning had available to him in his brief tenure at the start of the season.

But we all know he didn't.

I'd also expect Des record to be significantly better if he'd had the back end of a previous season, a whole transfer window and pre-season AND had the backroom staff of choice available to him throughout that time.

But we all know he didn't.

And we're still 6th, a point clear, and nobody with games in hand within touching distance🙂

Anyway, to answer my own question:
Buckingham: P27 W9 D7 L11
Appleton (first 27 games in charge): P27 W8 D9 L10

Of course it isn’t irrelevant. Appleton took over a team in need of a major rebuild. Des took over one that was largely a winning one.

A winning team that was paper thin, showed it's obvious frailties in numerous games including the less than impressive start to the season, and subsequent injuries showed it STILL needed a rebuild, to be precise.

We had Alex Gorrin on the bench for 4 games over the Xmas period. If that doesn't show you just how desperately threadbare the squad was by that point, then nothing will. Not to mention how badly those who had played most/all those games in that intense period were in need of a rest.

Anyone else feeling a weird sense of relief now Lincoln have leap frogged us?

I don't like watching Des Ball and the results aren't great.

Does anyone have Des' points-per-game extrapolated over a season? (where do we finish next season?)

Imagine, if league one is stronger next season?

No. Frustration and disappointment but absolutely no relief.

We have some fans who appear to have down tooled long before our players allegedly did. Even now, with Lincoln still to play at home, I'd have us as slight favourites still to make 6th.

That doesn't take anything away from today which was definitely 2 points dropped, but I'd hope that serves as yet another kick up the ass for everyone.

I'll have some of what you're on.

Delusional Mr Egg

Forget Sixth, it’s not happening, and I’d be surprised if we got that spot again this season.

In what world are we slight favourites? We are a poor footballing side, concede soft goals, have a manager reluctant to take the handbrake off and are just about the most inconsistent side in L1. Lincoln can’t stop winning, score for fun, are sound defensively and have unbelievable momentum. And we are favourites? I’ll be staggered if you find even one Oxford fan who thinks we have the upper hand and are favourites now!

Its the hope that kills ya - I'll at the game Monday, as will my sister, nephew, plus my partners son and two of my 3 granddaughters, supporting the U's, Up the Manor
