I bet he didn't do any of the communications though. It's clear that the Chief Executive is much more experienced in financial restructuring in sport -which is what he did at Inter Milan where " as the Chief Financial Officer he held responsibility for financial, strategic and management reporting and the Group's financing and capital structure where he led the restructuring of the club’s long and short term financing facilities which ultimately facilitated the development of the club on the pitch, culminating in the club’s return to Champions League football in 2018 and the 2021 Italian league title" than the day-to-day running of a League 1 football club,
But then we have lots of people who can do the day-to-day running of a League 1 football club.
To build the new stadium we probably need the Inter Milan skillset.
He didn't do the comms. no, and that's something that needs attention. I imagine he's here because Erick Thohir asked him. Whether that's good or bad who can say? Mayb he wants to live inthe UK for a bit, perhaps his parents are getting on or his kis are at university. And he's getting more involved with strategic initiatives- including at your old University.I bet he didn't do any of the communications though.
l take issue with some of that, as CFO he would carry out board strategy not set it. He would have reported to an FD. He was a member of the senior management team not a board member, according to the same LinkedIn profile.
If he was head of strategy at Inter Milan why is he here? That is one hell of a career downturn.
This is his first job as CEO, that is why he is here. I accept it is a huge job.
The worrying part is we have CEO in his first CEO role, a manager in his first bigger league appointment. A lot on inexperience in those key roles. The events of the past couple of months echo that inexperience.
As a former CEO, FD and CFO I understand the very different skill sets required to carry out those roles and how different they are in quoted and SME organisations. Coincidentally Tim and I went to the same University but I won't hold that against him!!
Maybe a couple of them might think about moving this window with all the bluster coming out of the clubIf it’s confusing for us fans just imagine what it’s like for the players.
Jerome alluded to this during the game. I was a bit confused at the time but I think what he was saying is that Hackett, Short and Price will all have equal billing under Des if I understood correctly?Des Post Match, re: Hackett ‘appointment’:
“In terms of how we work together and what that looks like, we are still discussing that and things should be clearer before the weekend”
Also Des Post Match, when asked about Hackett:
“Yeah, we’ve probably gone a little bit too early on that”
This is AFTER our CEO has released an update, that states Hackett will be Des’s Assistant. Does anyone at the club have a f*****g clue what’s going on?
It’s clear our increasingly distant CEO, doesn’t!
I think need to be more worried about them reading the bluster coming out on the message boardsMaybe a couple of them might think about moving this window with all the bluster coming out of the club
Can you blame the bluster coming out of the message boardsI think need to be more worried about them reading the bluster coming out on the message boards
Some of that is massive speculation. Things clearly are not good at the moment, but nor sure how you can second guess a lot of thatSo basically Tim has lost interest but we’re still paying him a huge wage to not do his job properly? Is that a fair assessment?
With GF never here either, despite costing us a small fortune as well I suspect, then we have 2 highly paid executives not delivering and effectively no one running the club?
It seems like in a couple of months we’ve suddenly become a complete mess. Des is now like Mr OUFC in the same way KR was and we all know how that ended up and how bad it was for the club. The owners are distant and there is no one properly guiding the ship?
I imagine NMcW feels isolated and is pi**ed off at lack of support from anyone other than highly paid consultants who are also costing a fortune.
We have no one to sign off transfers hence the problems there, and all this is probably filtering down to the players hence the likes of Beadle leaving despite Sheffield Wed already having a very competent GK and his game time not guaranteed like it was here?
Am I reading the room reasonably accurately or being paranoid here? And is there much more I haven’t even covered?
Yep having listened to Des’ interview again that’s how I’ve interpreted it, think some on here are making too much of a disparity between what the CEO has said and how Des sees CH’s role.Jerome alluded to this during the game. I was a bit confused at the time but I think what he was saying is that Hackett, Short and Price will all have equal billing under Des if I understood correctly?
No doubt he is here because Thohir or Ferguson asked him. He is obviously a corporate animal( that is not meant as an insult). He was based in the UK and a Chief Exec my error but not of a business in a goldfish bowl environment. He didn't do the comms. no, and that's something that needs attention. I imagine he's here because Erick Thohir asked him. Whether that's good or bad who can say? Mayb he wants to live inthe UK for a bit, perhaps his parents are getting on or his kis are at university. He probably needs someone like you to talk through all the difference in roles. He's probably not used to the level of scrutiny he's facing.
Clearly the Indonesian elections and Bakri's involvement with the Indonesian Olympics means that we are a bit down the agenda at the moment. But appointing Buckingham feels like a clear and positive decision. Beadle returning was to be expected. Where will we be at the end of January is the key question.
I genuinely think that someone like you would be able to offer a huge amount in conveying the fans' view.No doubt he is here because Thohir or Ferguson asked him. He is obviously a corporate animal( that is not meant as an insult). He was based in the UK and a Chief Exec my error but not of a business in a goldfish bowl environment.
Totally agree the next month will be pivotal both on and off the park.
My gut feeling is not all is well, too many very basic mistakes are being made. But I accept on field activities may be the least of the problems.
But us fans never have the full picture and neither should we. But as fans we get very frustrated when it feels like we are on a slippery slope of our own making.
It‘s all massive speculation and guesswork from me, absolutely. I was just trying to read through the lines of how things may be looking based on what ECYellow and a few others have alluded to tonight and in the last few days, and trying to paint a possible scenario of the situation. Some of that is massive speculation. Things clearly are not good at the moment, but nor sure how you can second guess a lot of that
How do you know that we gave nobody to sign off transfers?
And the manager who’s just uprooted his family to move half way around the world to take the project on that they presented to him. Appreciate this is his home and familiar but it changes nothing - he’s here on false pretences. I dare say if they presented him this scenario, he’d have stayed where he was and waited for the right role. He’s been shafted by his own club.If it’s confusing for us fans just imagine what it’s like for the players.
Ravel’s left hand piano concerto?and now I'm not sure I have a musical analogy for Des as he's trying to do everthing with a hand tied behind his back, or so it seems
He doesn't get off scott free here. And the manager who’s just uprooted his family to move half way around the world to take the project on that they presented to him.
