Ex Player #11 Joey Beauchamp RIP

Absolutely horrible.. as someone who has been there (2 attempts a long time ago) and come out the other side knowing that things can get better, it absolutely kills me that someone felt they had nowhere to go and that life just wasn't worth it.

I think you have to take a step back and think of what the last two years have been like for even the strongest. You couldn't leave your house, couldn't meet your mates to de-stress, couldn't see your family, in many cases couldn't work.

4 walls, surviving day to day with no end in sight at times.

It put incredible strain on fragile relationships.

To anyone who hasn't truly been there it's incredibly hard to comprehend.

Utterly, utterly tragic.

Always up for a KFC Kip if you need

Yes.

Very tragic and such a violent end.

The thought that someone reaches those depths of such utter hopelessness is so very sad.

I am sure all of his friends and family are asking themselves what if they had done this or done that to prevent such a situation, but the reality is that you can‘t be there for someone 24/7 no matter how much you care and love someone.

Guidance from the Samaritans on reporting from inquests.

Shame the journalists and the ghouls on here and social media can’t help themselves being “first”

So @admin time to delete all those posts on this thread.

Yep, very disappointed about elements of both of those media articles. The Samaritans are very clear on these things - journalists need to be better on important things such as this.

I have known at least 5 close friends who have hung themselves, I was close at one stage.

You never know what is happening to someone, and all these covid restrictions will have resulted in more deaths than covid ever inflicted!

I wish we could all make more time for each other, especially us blokes, it's ok to not be ok..

One small item did strike me was from the Ox Files club podcast where Joey talked through a late 90s season. It was released roughly a year ago too. He mentioned being 'bored' due to lockdown and was furloughed at the time. We know that many suffered with their mental health when the pandemic was at its worst. It may have added another layer to what he was going through.
I noticed that watching it again last week. He looked and sounded depressed in that podcast/video and with hindsight it is harrowing to watch.

I can’t quite believe those articles got published like that. Someone needs a major bollocking.

I’ve missed something, which articles are they ? I’ve only read the Oxford Mail inquest article which is just reporting the cause of death.

As part of the day job many coroners' cases cross my desk and I also find the local rags reporting both ghoulish and disrespectful to those who could not see any other way out of their problems and their friends and family who are grieving and wondering "why?".

Talk to someone, you are not alone and everything can find a resolution.

On a slightly more positive note, one of the bars at the Oxford stadium will be named "Joeys" in his honour.
