Transfer News Summer Transfer Window 23/24 Build up

The rebuild will take 3-4 windows if we allow ourselves as a club, to do the most efficient and sensible thing, running contracts down, then releasing on frees.

If the club wish to accelerate, then financially, some contracts will be paid up.

With the growing and mounting debts, that would be a concern but sadly, that's how this club now runs, with poor mis-management and poor recruitment.

The only cost-effective way IMO to move some of this crap on, is to cash in on Cameron and use the cash to pay off the rest of this rubbish. I think Cameron will leave and has higher aspirations than Oxford, time will tell.

The very fact that we have so many players under contract still (Henry, Baldock, the GK's, etc) is a shocking indictment of where we find ourselves.

And with the consideration of our growing debts and the silly chatter from Tim Williams about our existence, it's about time some serious questions were posed.
He won’t leave, loves the club. Recently moved in or bought a house close to Bicester. Has had a massive pond built & loads of work done to his house. No chance he leaves. He’s basically on championship money already and loves the club.

Josh Emmanuel released by Grimsby, always been a fan and would love him here. RB/RWB and I believe he can play RW too if needed. Quick and powerful.

Also believe he could have links with Hogg and/or Manning from their times at Ipswich or through connections.

Appreciate your opinion, but buying a house and having a pond installed is not going to convince me that he won't be off :D

Well he won’t be. If he was going to leave it would have been start of the season just gone. If he leaves now it will be at the end of his contract with us.

Not if someone comes in with a big offer.
Would take between £2-3m. Which ain’t going to happen after this season. We are in a stronger position with him this season than last & if we got anywhere between the numbers I’ve said above that could offset losses and help investment in the squad going forward I’d take it but can’t see it happening

I like a lot of what Mag Dog87 is suggesting but the sad fact is it is going to take at least 3 windows to complete a lot of this rebuild. For next season I think we need to do the following:
1 Goal Keeper
1 Right back
1 Left back
1 Holding midfielder
2 Strikers (in addition to keeping Taylor if we can) (but no Joseph, not enough gaols in the lad for me)
All of the above need to be first team players, fit and ready to play (not ones for the future). 6 players is I think realistically achievable.

We can add to this with some new ones for the future or young loans (although I would be going here for players we may have a chance of signing in the future).

The following players should be encouraged to move on:
Baldock, Seddon, Gorin, Wildschut, and sadly Henry (although if we have space and budget and think he could get fit I would like to keep him).

The following loaned out:
O'Donkor, McGinty, Golding

If we achieve all of this then the expectation for next season should be upper mid-table with an a possible play off push as a bonus. Fail to achieve much of this in the window then we have to bring someone in to run the recruitment properly.

If recruitment is successful and come November we are anywhere near the bottom of the table and or showing poor form and performances then Manning should be replaced.

Ideally I would like to see someone bought in by the club to run the football side of things above the manager as I have zero faith in Williams and Ferguson. If we end up with another season like this one I would want them replaced. As is Williams need to really buck his ideas up in order to reconnect with the fans and start building the club up again. At the moment some rich people seem to be playing football club with us from half way round the world. I don't know if any of them have any passion for the club at all, if they do they need to do one heck of a lot better than they have so far to show it.

Whilst I agree with literally everything else in your post......

.......just wanted to point out on the highlighted bit that Joseph scored 9 league goals this season off 33 starts and 8 sub appearances; whilst Taylor scored 7 off 31 starts and 5 sub appearances. And of course Joseph is 21 and on the up, whilst Taylor is 33 and on the way down.

I can see the argument for keeping neither, but can't see the football argument for keeping Taylor and not Joseph
(though I can see a financial argument if Taylor's willing to sign a cheap, performance-based contract or Swansea quotes us a silly price for a Joseph loan extension)

You are in early with the relegation prediction.

It’s going to be a tough season though, that’s why I can’t get the obsession with bringing in squad players, with the players we are going to be able bring in they need to be first teamers, don’t have the cash to waste on any more 15 game a season footballers.
Where did I predict relegation?

Because one you'd be paying a sum for Joseph in order to lead the line most weeks, whereas Taylor would only be expected to contribute from the bench.
