Fan's View Fan's View 23/24 - No.23: Reading away

Can but agree with your final sentiments Paul.
On a different note, Mrs L treated me (us) to an overnight at the Voco hotel right next to the stadium. Keeping a low profile to avoid any confrontation (needn't have bothered as it was all very well behaved and polite) we enjoyed a really good burger and some wine in the Atrium bar. It gave an ideal look at what we might expect with the new stadium, when it all comes to fruition. To be able to enjoy a decent bite to eat, a drink and sit in comfort (and warmth) was very pleasant. Post match we divested ourselves of scarves and hats etc and returned for a late drink. The atmosphere was good with several Reading comments of "good result", "good point" etc. The notion of having a drink post Kassam is non existent, we can only hope that the Triangle affords us that opportunity.

I got halfway to work before realising that I'd left my ticket at home. Snap.

Sorry I can't think of anything more interesting to share.

Should really be titled a fans view, it's not the view of all, especially in regards the deep rivalry for some U's fans.

Atmosphere wise, I think that we were unmistakably quieter.
Can’t understand why considering that there were 3,000 of us?

We were not shite. Just not that full on attacking.
This was the first proper derby against them for years and, but for our goal celebration, it was just…a bit meh!

Sh1te. Really?
It wasn't great, but many games are far worse than that.
Are we now in the situation where the atmosphere is only good if it is a really good performance?
No, just think the game/performance didn’t live up to the build up/expectancy and hype regarding a fixture that hasn’t happened in 20 years.

It was a poor game played by two poor teams on the night, with no real desire, passion etc which many probably hoped for, and certainly didn’t live up to a derby/rivalry game.

I took a friend who thought it was a very poor game, and actually questioned how we were a top 6 side.

I don’t want to get into the debate of which should come first e.g. entertainment on the pitch drives the atmosphere or whether the fans create an atmosphere that then makes the players perform etc, as I think it’s a bit of both, but all I can say is, our fans seemed up for it before the match (in the pubs, at the start of the game etc), but that petered out fairly quickly once we saw what was being served up!

Yeah the title is Fan’s view not Fans’ view. Bet the Crewe forum don’t bicker about apostrophes
Exactly. Very clear about that. Always aware. Never once have I claimed to speak for others.
And for the record I just carried this on after the Oxford Mail canned the column - It was them who titled it Fan's View. I just didn't change it.

If you’re a luvvy for the quality of play you’d better stick to the PL
Been an Oxford fan for 50 years, so I’ve seen the rough with the smooth, and Tuesday’s game was shite, so please don’t get blinded by the league we’re in. Most neutrals I’ve spoken to have said to me how I watch this shite!!, and even Reading fans I know were expecting us to be much better/thrash them!

The last time we played well was 1st half against Bolton, mainly down to Edwards I’d say.
