New Stadium Plans - The Triangle - Planning

Given the ever shortening timescales I'd very very surprised if its fully completed by August 2026.

It may be the case somethings aren't fully finished like landscaping, wall and floor coverings etc and I think we need to manage our expectations. I'm sure some will be offended by that.
A month or 2 delay has been covered I the last by a club playing a few away games first.
Not ideal but probably better than the alternative

Abingdon towns ground is used by Abingdon Abbots FC now. Even though loads of pubs near by there isn't much parking. Pitch even when it doesn't flood is like a swamp.

It wasn't a serious suggestion for the reasons you've given and the flooding.

I genuinely laughed at the name Abingdon Abbots. Were they started by Ian Rush's club killer company?

The pitch when Town were running would either be flooded or rock hard from my experience. When reffing there, I don't think I ever wore boots, just trainers.

If you could find a flat piece of land on Blenheim Palace, put in temporary stands and lighting
concerts, security and road infrastructure not in question if your a duke.
Everyone happy

Yeh I know you weren't being serious but just incase any of the opposition are looking in and get any stupid ideas 😂

Abingdon town FC nickname was The Abbots. So that's why the reformed club name is Abingdon Abbots.

Who is running AA?

Because I can't see why they couldn't have done a deal to use Abingdon Town instead. After all there is no commercial value in the name and the club was previously run by volunteers and players weren't paid anything iirc.

The Abbots was a relatively recent nickname I think as previously it was 'the club from over the bridge'. Certainly was the latter in the 1980s.

I’d also point out that before we can play in the stadium they need to hold, I think it’s 2, test events to make sure everything is ok. I’d imagine these would be pre season friendlies.

Their waiting on Cherwell district council to sort out a bit of land , I’m sure everything will be just fine

Good luck to them.

It would be very on brand for CDC councillors Middleton and Mawson oppose that one as well.

I haven't a clue who owns/runs Abingdon abbots. I'm guessing they can't use the Abingdon town name as it folded leaving unpaid debts to the owner of the ground and other businesses.

The owner of the ground, unless they've since sold it, is the club killing company that Ian Rush part owned/owns and he was all over the company's website at the time as part of its PR. Town's lease never got renewed as the terms became impossible to fund as seemed to be the standard operating procedure of the above mentioned company. Town wasn't the first club that folded as a result.

Town had pretty much sorted their financial problems through the volunteer committee until the lease bombshell. Although they had to remain very frugal hence not paying players but they had just appointed a manager who had good local contacts (again iirc).

I'd genuinely be surprised if AA is anything to do with the ex Town volunteer committee considering they couldn't get near paying the above mentioned lease.

TBF this sort of set up happens for concerts and all manor of other events across the country, usually only lasting a weekend.
Could a temporary stadium, constructed out of scaffolding and security fencing, be erected around some local football pitch in a park somewhere?
Maybe the standard or the pitch would be an issue? I don’t know.

The sustainability business model can be applied anywhere in any way. This time in our plans to make a stadium in England. Oxford United FC
@oufcofficial
has made a significant commitment to help tackle the climate crisis,

Further tweets:

With that, our club has confirmed its dedication to playing its part to ensure the sports sector achieves a low-carbon future.

He continues:

Our club is committed to decarbonisation by halving its carbon emissions by 2030, as well as achieving net-zero by 2040. It is also the only Sky Bet League One club to have signed the agreement.

Maybe I'm being naive but, I actually believe he means what he says and that he does want a stadium and a progressive football club. It would make for a very good vehicle upon which to sell the green credentials of the Bakrie organisation and afford him a foothold in the UK. He is already politically active and can often be seen at events around the world.
