They "reached an agreement"...................

I mean, talk about a statement that doesn't say anything!

"We reached an agreement with Reading in 2021. They say they're compliant. We're trying to decide if we agree. Don't bother us about it any more - we'll tell you when we're done thinking!"

(to be fair to Paul Ince - he's actually done a pretty good job there this season. Given that he was only able to bring in loanees and old cast-offs (and his boy), it's an achievement that they're actually better than they were the year before)

16 months to dig their heads deeper in the sand, secretly praying please make this go away, our stupid rules are completely unworkable.

Year on year they're one of the top 3 in the championship for spending vs turnover, they're wage bill is completely unsustainable. How they've escaped further sanctions and relegation is remarkable, don't think their fanbase have any idea how lucky they are to still be watching championship football.

Another points deduction?

Shows how weak the level of points deductions/rules are that they've been pinged all these times and are still in a mess, yet only suffered 1 relegation.

It shouldn't be 2 points, it should be 10 if HMRC is being paid late that much. Don't pay your wages, likewise 10. Make it hard and fast, make it a punishment rather than an inconvenience. Get rid of the mitigations that always seem to be used.

The farce of Everton only getting 6 points sums it up. The rules aren't a secret. Everton have broken the rules substantially and continue to do so. Other clubs have sold players/not signed players (such as Wolves) or not signed players (Newcastle) to stay within the limits. Newcastle would probably have got more than the 6 points deducted considering their injury issues. But apparently Everton have been badly done.....

And the claim that Everton gave materially wrong numbers in good faith by the Appeals panel is utterly laughable. They should be going after the accountants/sacking the internal ones or the work experience kid they must have got to do them in that case.

I've lost count now. How many points deductions is that this season?

Starting to get the feeling that they are getting off lightly here. Probably because they were once in the Premier League and if they fail it'll show that chasing premier league football isn't always sustainable in the long run.

IMO points deductions as a punishment should double each time the same offence is committed, during any one season.

Reading keep taking the P**s out of EFL rules, and it seems, getting away with it, with a mere slap on the wrist

Confirmed as being two further points docked (leaving them three points above the drop zone) with a further two suspended points. Those latter two will be deducted if HMRC are paid late between now and the end of the season. Their owner has also been hit with a further fine of £100,000.

They've played a game or two (or three) more than everyone below them, so it's getting tight again for them.

I think they'll probably do enough to stay up (unless they are hit with further points deductions) unfortunately - they've got Carlisle on Saturday which will be massive.

Does the owner ever pay these fines? Because if he does why does he not just pay the money he owes on time? If he doesn’t what is the point of the fines?

Come on Carlisle!

I highly doubt he gives a damn about the fines considering he has let 2 clubs die already, and was still able to buy Reading, so would be very surprised if he even acknowledges they exist. I suspect he is more interested in what is going on more immediately in China for him.

If you fine someone as a punishment and they don’t pay it then you have to take further action though? He has been fined before I think, has he paid that?

Increasingly strange situation, this is the third season this has been going on for now, not like he hasn’t had plenty of time to sell them if he was going to, hard to see what changes here.

I very much doubt he has paid any of the fines. Remember this is the EFL so I doubt they can actually force him to pay them.

I think he wants a ridiculous amount for them and if he doesn't get it, he still owns the Stadium and Training Ground iirc. He has shown he will let clubs die so a distinct possibility. Also, again iirc, he has some major issues ongoing in China with the authorities but could be wrong.

If I'm right on the last point, then I suspect Reading hardly registers for him and an EFL fine definitely won't.

The only further recourse for the EFL would be to go after the club either by adding it as a football debt (assuming they can) as I can't see what else they could do. They can't force him to sell.

Could rumble on for years then, hard to see what will change.

The "Sell Before We Dai" statement made me chuckle. "It makes no sense to punish the fans" "especially for an infringement that provides no sporting advantage".

Conveniently forgetting the years Dai Yongge overspent pushing for promotion back to the Premier League, what their fans were demanding, whilst they were calling for managers to be sacked for not making the playoffs... no sporting advantage though, obviously!
