I'd say poor. Maybe not in a noticeable dropping clangers way but there wwre plenty of times I thought he could have done better. Perhaps not times when you'd outright blame him but on another day he could have kept it out. If a goal goes in that you think might be saved once in every three times you can ignore it but if it happens ten times with no save then you're a few goals down on where you should be. I quite like a stat and there have been plenty around showing how both underperformed last year on what they should have done regarding expected goals conceded. Neither are particularly good with their feet either so we don't gain anything there which is apparently a strength of McGinty, hopefully he gets a go on Tuesday so we can see what he's about.Poor or just not at the standards set in 2020-21? There seems to be an attitude that because he wasn’t as good he was instantly awful. To me, that hasn’t been the case. He wasn’t dropping clangers (Eastwood was prior to Stevens taking over) - just not reaching the heights we’d seen previously.
Likewise, Sam Long. He wasn’t bad last season. Simply not as good as 2020-21.
He totally misjudged a cross in the second half on saturday, he came for it and it went right over his hands. Always looks a bit dodgy to me and distribution is still slow... compare with the Cambridge keeper. In the two games so far this season Eastwood has looked comfortable and in control and we have only conceded once so I would say we shouldn't fix what isn't broken.
I think he’d be helped by having confidence in the ability of those that are to receive his quick distribution. I don’t so I can understand why he sometimes dithers.Eastwood’s distribution is just so bad:
His throw outs are ok but he often dithers with them, he’s not exactly great at starting attacks with a quick, accurate throw
His short passing is poor, he looks clumsy and awkward with the ball at his feet
His long kicking isn’t great either
He’s a great shot stopper and not bad in the air but for a team who want to play out from the back he doesn’t have the footballing/passing skills to make it work.
