Yup. It's not fantastic, but if the pundits are so anti discipline as the first tie breaker, it's fairer than drawing lots or anything else like tiddlywinks or poker. There is still an element of risk involved. If the general standard was better, the WC would be a lot closer and we wouldn't need to manufacture excitement.After every game - win, lose or draw?
Let's face it, the African Cup of Nations is such a poor standard, the African teams have a big leap in standard once the WC starts. If it restarted in 2 weeks time, they'd do a whole lot better. They just look a little too naive at times, but the talent is there.There has been talk for years about spreading football around the world, holding the world cup in American, South Africa, Qatar etc, yet we have a last 16 with only Japan outside the usual European and South/Central American teams. Moving to 48 teams will just add more token teams into the pot and more meaningless games.
