Away Match Day Thread +++ 1/1/2019 Plymouth Argyle v OUFC match day thread+++

Listing to his interview. He's struggling, isn't he.

Probably best for both parties if he pursues his career elsewhere.
I agree. Robinson sounded exhausted and spent. It was quite a difficult listen to be honest. I’ve got nothing personal against the guy, I believe he puts his heart and soul into it, but he seems to have got himself into a bit of a muddle and can’t see which way is up. I think someone with a fresh view and perspective is what’s needed, ASAP.

How wasn’t he supported in the summer?

He said himself that:

- it was the best budget he had ever had to work with
- that Sam Smith was his main target
- that the squad he had was good enough to get to the playoffs
- Carruthers and Holmes would not have come cheap

Ok, they may have missed out on some targets because they got better offers (Mulumbu and Celtic spring to mind) but maybe that is because he was deluded and looking for players they never had a chance of getting.

Or perhaps they missed out on targets because players saw through his bullshit?!

To say he wasn’t supported, in my opinion, is completely false.

He has shoes players with a history of injury, unsurprisingly they have then got injured again, and then he wants to use injuries as an excuse?! Come on man!!

He moans about having a lack of options upfront..... who was responsible for signing (or not) the strikers we needed?
Yep, got it in one, Robinson.

Everyone who went to more than a handful of games last season could see that Obika was a squad player at best, yet somehow Robinson allowed us to go into the season with him as our main option up there....it was never going to work.

He said his job is “impossible” earlier this week..... well, if you believe the job is impossible despite being given the biggest budget you have had to work with you are probably in the wrong game.....
Can I like this post more than once??

What a mess. And yes, let's hope no one gets too personal with Robinson, the man was sounding in a bad place.

Post match interview summation from KR>=:

KR agrees team selection is wrong - we can't do without "men" in there. Browne has nothing left in him today and not fair to 16 year olds to put into that situation. Raglan won't improve defensive situation. Not ruthless enough, Browne and Whyte tired. Pure fatigue. Game came a day too early for players. We've flogged players to max fatigue level.

A very healthy budget but lots of players not here today. 5 players are nowhere near. Smith and McMahon haven't worked. 7 or 8 players not in squad.

2 goals came from our throw ins - stupidity. Can't defend performance. Poor things happened from our own throws. We looked like we had no cutting edge. Browne has no power in his legs. Lots of young players struggling with the amount of game time. Rewards will be reaped once they get better.

Cannot spend lots of money under FFP rules. No ones fault. 7 players not available for selection. Most money spent is at training ground not at game. Cannot blame certain people, collective responsibility. KR says to blame for people listening. Always judged on results, last 3 games atrocious.

Players in tomorrow and will review game tape - was a day off. Players took responsibility with fans. Ivo decided that he wanted to go home for Xmas and that is it for him. Paying him but buggered off home. KR not happy but player doesn't want to be here. Sounds like he will be off.

Striker deals - walk a mile in KRs shoes. Working on deals for 6 weeks. Mention Sunnerland doc and what it's really like. Agents and players hold out for more money so sit on deals. Very hard to beat that mentality. Spoke to 5 or 6 strikers - cannot get them to accept that. If buying, the club will always wait for a better deal at last minute, then price goes up. Same with wages. Lots of variables out of clubs control. On phone at 2 to 3am talking to agents and players, back on phone at 6am.

KR knew after 35 mins that a man was missing in the midfield.

We have a case for sacking Pekalski then? This is a man who has never played a competitive minute for us in a year and a half, who we paid a fee for and is on good money and he can’t even be bothered to stay around over a period when English football is at its busiest.

He is our worst ever signing, hopefully he will be sacked and get a job shovelling Reindeer s**t.

Reading through the last few pages on this thread, I have to say I’ve never seen the forum so unified. And the arguments for getting rid of Robinson are so strong and compelling. Obviously Tiger will take notice though.

That's because they only ones left on here have moaned the others off here to death.

Nelson sounds a c**t

Really?

It’s been fairly obvious since earlier in the season when the club were trying to negotiate a new contract with him that he either wanted out or an improved package.

I personally think we should keep him until the end of the season unless a ridiculous offer comes in for him e.g. £3m+.

Losing Nelson would certainly condemn us to league 2, and god knows how much that could cost us in lost revenue etc and trying to get back to where we are now. We must do all we can to stay in this league.

We all know promotion aspirations have gone and it’s about staying in this league, so all we can do is get behind the team/management etc to give us the best chance of achieving this.

It’s time to start believing!!

In parallel to this we really need to be putting some pressure on Tiger to find out what the hell us going on at this club and what’s the plan.

What’s your solution to this god awful mess then Oxford84? The forum is open to all opinions and I’d be really interested to hear the counter argument. It might stop me feeling so bloody depressed.

But please don’t use the word ‘believe’..

Getting more experienced league 1/championship fit players in the club would improve things straight away.

And this is why Nelson doesn’t want to stay I’d think. It became apparent after the first game of the season that this was going to be a year of struggle. Why would a player with strong aspirations to play in the championship want to commit more years in a short career to us?

I watched the game, and listened to the KR interview. We were poor for much of it and players did appear to be running on empty but we kept trying and indeed had a lot of possession and corners but few genuine goal threats. Browne missed a glorious chance at 2-0 but even he could not be faulted for effort. We were vulnerable on left side of our defence and Carey and Lameiras ran us ragged. We obviously missed Mous first half. Brannagan is not a holding midfielder. Far better when given some freedom. It is obvious players are knackered and now low on confidence. I thought both central defenders struggled and it is apparent from the performance & interview that Nelson is looking for a lucrative ( for him) move. I felt for KR. Indeed contrary to what his bashers on here say he did talk a lot of sense and did admit a tactical error. Those who think making key signings is easy are deluded. Players of decent quality are in demand. Agents run the game and will hold out as they too gain from upping the price, signing on fee and wages. Clubs will auction players. We may do the same with Nelson. I am not saying KR should stay but will a change work? There seems no doubt that Tiger’s frequent absenteeism is an issue. Many of us always expressed grave concerns about his ownership but time will tell. What is now needed is strengthening of the squad of course but crucially us true fans really get behind the team if we want our lge 1 status retained come May.

TBH how can anyone slag a player off if they haven't seen them play.
Also didn't KR say Pekalski couldn't run and only pass the ball sideways/ back. So hardly bigging him up for a return to the squad.
Though if it's true about his passing he would've slotted in easily.
