Away Match Day Thread +++ 3/2/2018 Charlton Athletic v OUFC +++

Today was amazing.

Pace. It's so important at this level and whilst Kane might not be Kyle Walker, he can track runners and can stay with his man. And that was against two of the best left sided players in this league: LB (Da Silva) and Mavididi (LW). He is solid and OVERLAPS! Napa and Buckley Ricketts again have pace and excellent first touches (especially the latter). Ball sticks to Rothwell's foot like nobody else I have seen at this level and he must start. He is so dangerous in broken play.

Ricky in midfield is a must. HE CANNOT START AT LB. He's too slow and suspect defensively. He gets done by any averaging winger so bringing him on in midfield is the only way to play him.

Ledson on fire.

CBs are still both not good enough. s**t even.

And thats your lot. I had literally the best day.

All available according to the Oxford Mail:

So... debuts for Kane and Smith-Brown, Thomas, Mowatt and Rothwell back from injury. No place in the squad for Tiendalli, Mehmeti and GvK, who are available.
Thoughts?
I think we should fund raise to get Tiendalli off the books.
The very worst first team player we have had since the Conference

Great day, well done Lego you showed why everyone is looking at you, love your passion. Our defenders have come under stick, but Charlton have a very good forward line and on the whole they did alright.

Looking forward to the Gas, even more so after today!!! COYY

I’d characterise myself as a mild-mannered Oxford supporter. However that gutsy win essentially deserves getting abolsutely smashed tonight as I’m doing now.

Merry Beating Charlton in Unlikely Circumstances everyone!

Yeeeeeeeeeellllllooooooooowwwwwwwwssssss.

We get pace into the team and suddenly things look better. Funny that. I suspect that Kane is the right back we've been looking for since Ribs retired - an underestimated loss to the team.

Was discussing this while on a very drunken night out last week - don't think we ever really saw the best of Ribs, just glimpses. He did get us the equaliser in today's reverse fixture. Understated performer who put a shift in every game.

If Kane keeps doing what he did today (minus that one mistake), it looks like a very shrewd loan deal. Not to get ahead, but at 24 and with his Chelsea contract up in 2019, a league one club where he's settled and guaranteed to start may be appealing. Still, there's a lot of hypotheticals there and we'll see after Bristol at home.

Good god hasn’t faz learnt anything??? Why the hell is he playing with one upfront. Back to the bloody dark ages. Brannagan? Martin in not Dickie??
Yes I couldn’t find it so ended up sad old git drinking on my own in the ground from about 2!!

Agree. Carroll has a lot to learn as we'd all expect and Tiendalli is not one to bomb on, and seeing them do their best vs the glimpses of Ribs that we had, just made me realise what we lost as a team. The sort of quiet thing that can cost a manager their job. If Kane settles here, a very neat signing he could make.

Anyone know if Tiendalli, Mehmeti and Gino were available for selection for today? If they were, then I imagine we'll be seeing the back of them soon.

They were all in Oxford training according to Faz as he talked about those not playing needing fitness work.
