Away Match Day Thread +++ 25/03/2018 PORTSMOUTH v OUFC +++

The analysis on Sky was pretty good, watched it after getting home from the game. Disappointed to lose but, there were some good performances. I didn't think Napa had such a good day, too lightweight and easily dispossessed.
Mowat was foolish to react but Thompson should have been sent off for a second yellow without a doubt. If the ref did confirm to our players that he had booked him (again) then it should have been an automatic red. No doubt there will be an inquest and possibly a ban issued after the fact.
Robinson had it right when he said we need to cross and shoot when there is a chance, not keep passing sideways looking for something better.

Going to be some changes come the summer.

Ive been saying that all season, now with a different manager he will lose all 4 strikers and bring in strikers that will f*****g shoot

Rothwell. Good option but think we need a better box to box midfielder in there

Shouldn't play again. A pathetic scape goat there. Mowatt let his passion get better off him.

Mowatt admittedly shouldn't have took notice of the scumbag and struck him but ref is as much to blame. Sends Thompson off for second yellow like he should've it's 10 v 10 and we probably win.

The ref isn't as much to blame though is he? If someone strikes out at someone, like Mowatt did, then he has to go. How many times have you seen a player get a second yellow for unsporting conduct? Not often I'd imagine.

Also part of the not play for us again comment was based on the fact that he is now banned for 3 games, we only have another 6 after that. He has been a disappointment this season (one of many), won't be here next and wouldn't be in our best team now, Rothwell is far superior and should be playing every week from now to the end of the season. I don't see anything to be gained from Mowatt taking a spot in the team.

Reminds me of Hylton. Loves to moan and moan and moan and get on the refs back and is quality in front of goal. Look very similar aswell.

Pompey are lucky to have him they'd be screwes without him. He's scored 4 of their last 5...
Yes we were saying that. We’d like him if he played for us ...

The ref told Mousinho after the game he booked Thompson during the melee for I assume unsportsmanlike behaviour

I was going to post under 11 against 9 but read ljs beating me to it !! After a shaky start I thought we played some good stuff BUT we played with only 10 players even before the sending off, then it was down to 9 !! Our missing player from the start was Thomas who had a 90 minute individual session of off the ball training, successfully managing to avoid the football at all costs.
What is the difference between Pitman and Thomas ? -- one plays football !! - what could we achieve with him (which one ?) !!

3-0 Pompey.

It's what we do, ultimately we'll stay up so it's fine.

Mutiny on the keyboards as people realise new manager bounce isn't really a thing.

I would 'like' my own post but noone would notice so I've quoted it instead.

Now where did I put that betting slip?...

Good in possession but let’s face it we didn’t penetrate so it’s meaningless really. It will be interesting to see what he does over the next few weeks to try and get these 2-3 wins that we need.

Whilst it was 11v11 we were the better team, aside from the first ten minutes or so. That said, we didn’t put enough good balls into the box and both Thomas and Napa were contained well by their defenders (they didn’t have to do much to contain Thomas to be fair. I’ve long been a supporter of his, but that was a very poor showing today).

As I posted at half time, it seemed like the second goal was going to decide the game. I thought the same as the second half started, we were well on top and if we had scored I’m pretty sure we’d have gone on to win. So when we got the penalty I was ecstatic - until Mowatt picked the ball up that is. I really don’t like to slate individual players too often, but he really has been mightily poor for us all season. I hate to sound negative, but I knew he was going to miss.

The incident that followed decided the game. Mowatt was stupid, but it’s always easier said than done when claiming players shouldn’t react. I’m sure if an opposition player goaded me two inches from my face after I’d missed a penalty in front of 18,000 people, I’d lash out too. My main confusion around the incident is how Thompson stayed on the pitch. If the ref did cock up by not sending him off, then the FA should apologise, as that is absolutely criminal.

Ultimately I came away feeling very disappointed that we didn’t get anything out of the game. We didn’t deserve to lose, and definitely not by three goals. Hopefully we can play as well but actually get a win on Friday. COYY!

When I reffed we could caution players under ungentlemanly conduct and SHOULD have been given whether it was a first or second card. OK the refs were a bit lenient and judged (rightly or wrongly) not to make the second. However in today's game the caution should have been made and he should have gone. It has been suggested that this did in fact happen, in which case the referee's mistake (and his assistants) not only effected the game it more or less guaranteed Portsmouth the match. Interesting start for the new boss, let's see how he handles it.

Ledson had a cracking game i thought. Dickie and Kane did okay, but napa looked very lively.
For a fat f**k, who looks like a lazy bstard, pitman knows where to walk to to put the ball in the net. Wheras, you look at Thomas today, and he didn’t get into any areas where he could hurt defences. Despite looking fitter and running further by miles.
Disappointing result, but some encouraging passages of play nearly paid out.

In guessing he didn't see the start of it, he had his back to the incident, so couldn't take action against Thompson. I believe he booked their no 5 and then the keeper, not thompson.

If pen goes in we would have gone on to win. Mowatt must NOT take another - why did he take this one? He cost us the game with his reaction - heavily goaded but a "Carragher" would have done the job! Overall I thought we looked very good up until the second goal & feel quite 'up' for our match on Friday.

We don't have anyone who can hit the target from 12 yards.

We desperately need leadership both on and off the field. I'm very confident that Robinson will provide the latter, not so sure where the former is going to come from.

Agree with many of the comments here today that we outplayed Pompey for large parts, but with no real penetration when it was really needed. Absolutely lamentable marking for their first and a moment of madness from Moet contributed to a very frustrating afternoon.

In many ways, this season can't finish soon enough. In others, I'm interested to see what impact Robinson cab have in the remaining games...just hope and pray we're safe before the last couple of games......

Exactly what me and my lad were saying to each other. “Fat t**t. I wish he was our fat t**t though”.
