I'm probably going to get a fair few people who disagree with me strongly here but the problem is the rules are too strict and arbitrary, and that has led to many people believing its all a bit farcical and not following the rules at all.
Why are masks needed when people are socially distanced in an open-air football stadium? That makes no sense to me. So many of the rules are enforced arbitrarily and without any common sense.
After a year locked in their houses people want to (rightly or wrongly) lose themselves in the moment, particularly now many vulnerable people are vaccinated.
Both ends of the mask debate need to come together a bit more and stop calling each other "covidiots" and "conspiracy theorists" etc.
Look at the
celebrations in Lille last night, humans are not designed to wear masks and not socialise with each other in a normal way. I will wear a mask when I can but I don't like it and can't wait for it to end. It is so inhuman.
Some people have become terrified of being even close to other humans and I dont know how easily they will be able to give up wearing their mask and get back to normality, that is sad.
Life is about living, not avoiding dying, for many many people.
There are two sides to this coin and I'm not willing to call footballers "bellends" for losing themselves in the moment after over a year of restrictions during a huge moment in their career.
