We were poor today, but deserved more than just a point. Winnall was "not very good at all", Cheltenham are currently winning the time wasting award for season 2021 - 2022. I would hope that we will work on set-pieces ie from corners/free kicks and throw ins. Nobody seemed to want to get into a space at throw ins. Hope the next game is better than today. COYY.

First off, I thought Cheltenham were a far better team than they're being given credit for here. Some sharp passing, a clear game plan which they played to perfection and some good players. I thought their centre backs and #10 in particular looked very good players. Yes they rode their luck with the missed pen and the Sykes miss but on another day, they see that out and have a vintage 3 points on the road. Also, after the way OUFC (and particularly Taylor!) behaved at MK, and on a number of other times this year, I just can't get annoyed with other teams time-wasting any more. I've finally seen what it's like to be the team doing the time-wasting, and seeing home fans frothing at the mouth, and it's absolutely glorious. If we do it, we can't begrudge any other team doing it to us.

That said, we looked very sloppy. A poor performance pretty much all round. Kane in particular looked not all there, to the extent that I actually started to wonder if he might not be fit or his head might be completely elsewhere. All over the pitch we lacked movement or imagination. We had our moments - the ball through for the pen, the build-up to the Sykes chance first half, the goal - but always looked a little bit flat. Maybe the players were still a bit tired from Wednesday? I said midweek that I didn't think we'd played that well, and had had some very obliging opponents to perhaps make us look better, and I saw more of that today. Either way, whatever it was, it was disappointing.

Agree with some of the criticism being levelled at MacGuane - he did very little today. I fear he has a bit of the Agyei about him, that he's just lacking that spark of aggression you need to excel in the men's game. Alongside players like Sykes, Brannagan, Taylor and Williams, it sticks out a mile. That's fine in some games, but today that midfield was a battle, and he didn't get stuck in to it enough for me.

On a positive note, the Whyte resurgence continues, changed the game when he came on. Gave us energy and menace. I did wonder though why you would bring on Whyte and then switch to a midfield diamond with him as the 10 - he did fine there, but up against a tiring LB he was making absolute hay. As Cheltenham tired, spaces started to open up on the wings, so I'm not sure why at that point you would opt to pack the middle of the park rather than try to get Whyte and Sykes 1-on-1 with knackered fullbacks. Still, it worked I suppose. Also, Sykes has, what, 4 goals in his last 5? Turning into such a key player for us. I've got a nasty feeling clubs are going to come in for him in January, especially with the contract situation not sorted. After not being able to score at all for the past three years he's hitting a purple patch at just the wrong time!

In the grander scheme of things, I think it's a glass-half-full rather than half-empty point. All teams have off days over the course of a season and this was very much one of ours. It's a positive that our off day ended with a point rather than nothing, and marks a growth in the team, too. How often have we seen Oxford lose games like that over the years? If we fail to make anything of this season, there will also inevitably be grumbles about dropping 5 points to Cheltenham, but, as I said above, even though we should have won today, that does them a disservice. They're a much better side than some of the dross we've seen this season.

Onwards and upwards. See you at Lincoln.

Felt like if we had a big striker option on the bench we would've won that. How many crosses did we ping in second half and Cheltenham had a free header.

And to stop being selfish and let better penalty takers than him take the bloody penalties he wins
Every top striker should be selfish.

I don't understand the hate for someone who has been scoring for fun this season as well as working his socks off for the team.

Yes it was a bad penalty, but Henry missed his last, as did Brannagan last season (although he scored the follow up)

We had a bad game. Everyone was below their best. It happens. We dust off and go again.

Thought McGuane was pretty good for the moment, definitely had some very promising moments. Whyte, I agree was superb when he came on. Williams, Taylor, Long, especially Kane all off colour, and you could tell Cheltenham had done their homework. Not the end of the world but need to get back with it in a weeks time!

Could be a good thing today, not only does it show we need additions to the squad to continue the push to promotion buy any scouts watching our players wouldn't of been that inspired I couldn't imagine.

That wasn't a great game tbh Cheltenham came with a plan and they stuck to that plan fair play to them as someone else mentioned if we're prepared to do that at away games we need to accept others doing it to us. We just didn't turn up today it was to slow sideways backwards not much going forward I don't see what maguane bring to the team today he wasn't doing much winnall back.to his usual self done f**k all the usual players worked the B*****s off ( Taylor brannagan long Sykes Williams).
Im still on the positive bus and get 3 points next week and a point or three against Wycombe and it's still looking good so I'm putting today down as an off day and we move on we didn't lose so that's the main thing

I find it so, so strange to see all the people saying McGuane was bad - but enough people have said it that I am questioning myself. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t think he was amazing by any means, but (as the commentators mentioned a couple of times) he absolutely glides forwards with the ball, and one such break ended with him playing a great ball out wide right to Sykes. He also played the ball through to Taylor for the penalty, and did a couple more just like it which didn’t come off but were good, progressive, defence splitting passes. A lot of his passing was sharp, one touch, and he kept the ball well. I will read the Oxford Mail player ratings with interest to see if they agree with me that he was head and shoulders above the likes of Kane, Williams and Sykes today, who should be getting far more criticism than McGuane in my view.

I think people are being too complementary to Cheltenham as well, their recent record speaks volumes. Much better than Wimbledon, sure, but a very limited team which on another day we beat comfortably.

I thought Cheltenham looked decent, strong and well organised, if not the best team going forward they were certainly not pushovers. They had worked out how to completely negate Williams who got found out on the left for me, just to one footed.

McGuane could of been more involved but did play some lovely passes and was involved in nearly all of our best attacks first half.

A bit disappointing but at least we salvaged something, the sort of game we wouldn’t of got the point last season.

I watched McGuane for quite a lot of the match, not once when we lost the ball did I see him chase back, jog yes, run no, I have no idea if that’s what he was told to do but it infuriated all of us upstairs in the SSU around me. He might be better going forward, but going back he is not for me.

Speed is of the essence, Winnal can’t spell speed let alone show it, nor Dan the man, time to ship them out.

To be fair, I don't think it was the worst penalty in the world. What I mean is putting a penalty down the middle is fairly common in football and most of the time you don't see the keeper gamble by staying put. Percentage wise it must be quite a high scoring penalty so wasn't bad in that sense. Fair play to the keeper.

Did Winnall touch the ball?

What was the Brazil of EFL 1 doing today, was all your reserve team you were waxing lyrical about against Wigan out as well as the superstars they replaced.
What are you doing you stupid little w****r. Is this what you live for? You’re know more than what’s on the bottom of my shoe when I’ve trod in the dark…….now be a good little boy and jog on.

It's great being able to play open attractive football against teams that stand off but we continue to struggle against strong teams who work hard to close us down.

The problem is there are enough teams like that to mean we won't get automatic and play off teams will all be like that!

We need to strengthen.... in two ways.

Hats off to Cheltenham who did their homework and worked hard.
