International News Russian War With Ukraine

Maybe the housing demand will fall now that Russian Oligarchs* can't hoover up new builds as buy to let assets🤷‍♂️

Sure as s**t most normal people can't afford the house prices in Oxfordshire;) . . . and it's not like that's going to improve any time soon with wages not able to keep pace with cost of living increases.

* Desperate attempt to get the thread back on track. Other Oligarchs are still available.

I was wondering that as well, if DBS checks are to be done that will take ages. Maybe the government and councils should go into the database of hosts should start checks sooner rather than later so as to bring these refugees over. If need be people can be brought in to help either paid or volunteer.

There are apparently no plans in place to do any checks. It has been pointed out that this is a massive risk for very vulnerable people coming over. I believe they are now trying to work something out, but having had to reverse position swiftly due to massively misjudging public opinion, they are having to make things up on the fly, which they have shown they are not very good at. It is of note though that Priti vacant has been mostly hidden, and it is Gove that is being entrusted to do it.

Gove is a better politician than Priti

I like the play of words 😊

Interesting comments I’ve seen about the Russian army and it’s perceived strength. As with the rest of Russia it’s corrupt and various Russian Mafia types control swathes of it. So when the State think they’ve got say 150 tanks in reality they’ve only got 75, the money allotted for the other 75 is spent on a nice Villa, Kensington pad or sending little Klisha to Oxford Uni.
If true this demonstrates one of the reasons why the Russian advance has stalled so badly.

Yes in south Oxfordshire, but our village doesn’t have the infrastructure and that was why they said 3/4 years ago no more house builds. Why South Oxfordshire were told to accept the local plan is the amount of properties that are needed. I believe it’s 3,500 to be built south of Grenoble road and I’m not sure what’s happening with the airfield at Charlgrove.
Would you want to move to a village but your 3/4!year old having to travel 3 miles to go to nursery/preschool.
These sort of things might seem small but it would be an issue.
Only one shop wouldn’t be adequate enough for why is being planned.

So it is alright for the Tory National Govt to impose the Local Plan on a new Lib Dem Council administration but as long as houses aren't built in Steventon?

I agree about infrastructure but I don't think many, if any, of the developments in Oxon have matching/or sufficient infrastructure. Certainly they don't in Abingdon. Chalgrove is ongoing, it is in the Plan and a planning application was submitted but withdrawn after the Civil Aviation Authority had issues. An adjusted plan will go in apparently.

Edit: I won't respond further on this as it is the wrong thread.

And yes it is T on the wrong thread so there won’t
be a response from me either because it’s in the wrong thread.

Not at all we have no space, Grenoble road does. The reason The Secretary of state got involved was because:

thinks that a lower-tier planning authority are failing or omitting to do anything it is necessary for them to do in connection with the preparation, revision or adoption of a development plan document,

Would that be the conservative secretary of state who was involved @bazzer9461 ? :sneaky:

That‘s a serious amount of brainwashing.
There have been numerous accounts of people living in Ukraine with family living in Russia, where the Russian family refuse to believe that their Ukrainian relatives have been attacked/bombed out by Russia. They choose instead to believe that Ukraine has done this to their own people.

Here's one such story: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-60600487
