Home Match Day Thread +++ 06/01/2018 OUFC v Blackpool match day thread +++

Listening to that I think the sound-man needs to have a few words with Chris Williams son about how to hold a microphone.

But you're right ciaran, He really needs watching.

I thought Gino was quite effective, he’s raw but you don’t win points for artistic impression. He reminds me of a good Conference striker who may or may not be able to step up.

Ahem! My name's Cudd and it rhymes with 'stud'....enough said, basically.

Absolute rubbish to say Blackpool would have won by three or four; we missed a number of glaring opportunities as well. A number of players had very dodgy games- eg Ruffels needs a rest, Payne was well off colour .

Our passing was poor and we seemed to struggle with the 50-50 challenges .

However we gritted it out and the last 20 minutes was encouraging. We certainly seem to be learning how to shut games off once we’ve taken the lead.

Stand outs were Eastwood, Martin , Carroll and Ledson.

Enjoyed Canice stirring the crowd up midway through second half. The lad has a great will to win.

I think the team are doing well considering our dreadful injury list and they deserve much more support from some of our more miserable supporters .

As does Pep. He seems to be getting some of his mojo back.

I thought the best thing about the game by a million miles was the result!

I thought Tiendalli actually did OK today, in a position that isn't really his. Not much got past him and he did get forward quite well.
Ledson ran his socks off - didn't look like a man who was going anywhere else soon.
GvK put in the effort, but there is very little quality there.
The passing was atrocious, with some of Carroll's distribution being especially awful (he is obviously a talent, and equally obviously nowhere near the finished article yet).
Our forwards seemed to be having a competition to see who could be the most selfish.
If Payne does another of his trademark 'brilliant dribble but oops I've run into three men and lost the ball' moves much more my head will explode.
Once more Eastwood was our best player.
We still gave the ball away constantly and in dangerous areas quite a lot. Sloppy.

But 3 points, getting closer to safety for the season. We won't go down, we won't go up. I hope this transfer window is used to build towards next season.

Fair enough comments. I thought Thomas had a ‘mare today. Shocking!

Would be interesting to see Hemmings and Big Jon Obika up topo_O

I think the reason people are saying Blackpool could have won by 3/4 is because of the excellent saves he made, whereas our attacks didn’t really come to Mitch a bit of a tame shot from Lego but the lack of passing in our attacks meant we weren’t going to score.

We've had plenty of games where we somehow lost, so it's only fair when we get one we somehow win.

But that was poor. Huge thanks to Eastwood for keeping us in it. Easy MOTM.

We really struggled to pass the ball today. The conditions were pretty crap for much of it, which didn't help I guess.

Although Ledson played well defensively, his distribution was dreadful.

GVK was almost non existent. I accept Pep wants to give him game time to try and get him going but when he has a bad game he really stinks the place up. He's not a winger, he's not as good up front as Thomas or Obika, so for the moment he comes on as a sub only as far I'm concerned.

I can't believe we're a few points off the play-offs. I agree with Pep that despite our poor performances the players we have do work hard. I think that's the reason we are where we are. So hats off to the management and the players for coming back from the Wigan game so well.

If per chance the moaner sitting behind is me then I will keep moaning

Bazzer, just bear in mind that those around you don't want to hear it. Yes you have a right to have a moan, but do you really think everyone sat close to you wants to listen to your whining every time a player makes a mistake? It really is crap having to listen to that all game.

I had 2 or 3 around me today, and they sounded so bleedin' miserable I really do wonder why they stayed.

I don’t think it is unreasonable to suggest that pool could have been 3 up before we scored. Eastwood yet again had a fantastic game and kept us in it.

True enough we had some glaring opportunities to score but if pool had already taken theirs I think the game would have become different.

But to take 3 points after a game like that has to be positive.

Only about 20 degrees in it then, oh and the drizzle of course, that made it for me.

Yep, same seat. Same f*****g seat.

Ha ha I miss the crack I really do. Iplayer is just not the same somehow  Maybe they will do another Spain trip a bit closer to here. Villareal"? :D

Or if we had taken ours (possibly the best chance of the match) it could have been different! People love looking at the negatives more than the positives

It couldve ended 4-4 if our 3 strikers (Gino wasn't staying on the wing leaving Dwight exposed)weren't greedy and passed to the player in better position,Gino and Thomas main culprits of this. And then if Eastwood wasn't so magnificent between the sticks.
but none of this happened and as long as we win I can't complain about what happened on the pitch obviously there were some weak points and as long as they are being worked on then I will not complain.

Not trying to be negative... I just thought their chances came before ours?

I stand corrected if we missed an opportunity before theirs.

But Eastwood saving a 25 yard shot is not a ‘chance’. They tested him from distance in the 2nd half but didn’t create a chance. The save in the 1st half was save from a chance

A suggestion that every shot is a missed chance is almost a Steve Evans like

The main thing that struck me about today’s match was the complete lack of quality. How many players in that team are actually comfortable with the ball at their feet? Payne and Mousinho are the only two I can think of. I think with Ledson and Ruffels in the middle we lack quality and creativity and a willingness to get on the ball. It’s part of the reason we play the ball along the back four so often without any penetration.

The other thing we so desperately lack is pace. Wingers in this window are an absolute must. Van Kessel is erratic as hell, but at least his pace keeps the opposition’s defenders honest and creates more space in key areas.

The other thing to strike me from today’s match was the negativity from the stands. It’s so unhelpful and unnecessary. The amount of ‘go forward’ cries when it was obvious the team were just trying to string a few passes together was painful. By all means express frustration at the end of the match, but - other than when a player shows a lack of effort/dedication - I just don’t get the berating of players during the match.

Anyway, two good results to start off the year and I’m sure the performances will improve if we keep on grinding out the wins.

What a miserable git there manager is.

Agree, what an awful interview. Went to 'Pool for the away match where we were poor, conversely they didn't play so well today and were without Kyle Vassell. Glad of the 3 points, really nicked the win. Simon Eastwood made all the difference, Tiendalli played better than in other matches I've seen him in. As others have said, our passing was awful at times, overall another unconvincing performance.
