National News King Charles III

Well, I found today very moving in places and a source of great pride in something that we as a country do better than any other in the world.

And maybe it's against the grain for here, but I absolutely think that having a king and royal family is a far better idea than any of the alternatives.

Having just a PM completely let loose to represent us would be horrible, yet adding in a president would on one hand be creating a position with about as much relevance and clout as the latest raft of mayors that have appeared in recent times,...
...but more importantly would leave us open to the distractions and vagaries of politics and celebrity which we don't need. Maybe there are some people who could be good at it, but they wouldn't get elected... we'd just get a choice of Blair, Johnson, David Beckham, Sam Smith and Bagga Chips.

Far better to have a group of people who have focused their whole lives on performing a largely successful version of the role than scrapping another institution without any clear idea of a workable alternative.

I think the monarchy is a weird idea but I can’t really argue with this, it’s a strange, outdated concept yet it does work and I suppose that’s what really matters.

I barely watched any of it, don’t have the attention span for it but it’s easy enough to avoid if you are not interested in it so I just find something else to do or watch as it’s not really my thing.

Really don’t want a president though so I am happy to stick with what we have.

I watched quite a lot as a republican as I don't think I will live to see another. Too much reliance on the sky fairy but kind of intriguing none the less and a celebration of many crafts on their way out. And who of us could play a clarinet whilst riding a horse?

The echo from the 3 cheers was kinda impressive.

They always boo the national anthem. It's not new. It's not a crime to be a republican. Yet.
Nope, and It’s not a crime in this country to have a different opinion either, yet, but that doesn’t and won’t stop us criticising the anti monarchists, particularly the perennial victims that the scousers seem to think they are.

Nah. Disagree. I watched the hillsborough documentary again last week, with my boy this time, and Liverpool fans were right royally fucked over by the establishment many, many times. I’d have a lasting and justified sense of victimhood and antagonism if I’d had to spend decades extracting some truth and justice out of our football, police, political and judicial systems.
