Or Mills is just ahead of him in the pecking order and he didn’t want to take Goodrham off?
That's pretty revealing, isn't it? Saturday was ideal for him to come on and produce the moment that Goodrham did. Fresh legs on the break against a very thin and desperate Charlton defence. Mills got the nod and the tired legs of Goodrham stayed on despite a very experienced pro in Murphy with the pace & power to put Charlton away comprehensively remained benched. His experience should be valuable in those scenarios, too. If he's doing everything right, why has he not been handed a single minute of league football this season by a manager who clearly likes to rotate and share the minutes around?

The way it’s going I would be amazed if Murphy was even picked to play in his own testimonial.

He was injured for the first 3 games of the season, so that explains it in part. I didn’t say he is doing everything right, quite the opposite, all I’m saying is that him not being brought on last weekend isn’t necessarily evidence that Manning doesn’t trust him. Does he not trust McEachran too? We could have done with his calming presence on the ball and ability to create from deep.

I’m sure we would gladly move him on if we could, and maybe we will, but he’ll have a part to play if he stays and is available

In all honesty I was actually very surprised he didn't send McEachran on for Brannagan as Cam wasn't playing particularly well and we lost control of things in the second half. That's really what made me think it was perfect for Murphy - he should thrive in chaos like that where it became end to end. He'd have had the freedom of the pitch. I'm second guessing Manning's thought process because for all I know, he loves him. But there's a glaring vacancy on the left, currently, that he doesn't seem to be anywhere near. I'm struggling to see what involvement he will have unless there is a major turnaround.

I think we should be prepared for another season of the phrase "slight knock" being used regularly in relation to the lack of Josh Murphy.

It's sufficient enough to immediately stop the questions for any upcoming fixture, and not yet damning enough to open up any wider discussion as to his long term prospects.

The proverbial kicking the can down the road.

Was under the impression that Murphy has a permanent issue (think it's hamstring) that is basically 'managed' all the time.
A bit like Nathan Holland. So in a place where Manning wants hard graft and desire all of the time, it's pretty rate that Murphy is going to impress on that front.
He'll look excellent one week, then absolutely lacking the next. For a man who had so much talent as a youngster and at the beginning of his pro career, it must be incredibly difficult to come to terms with, especially with your twin brother having been a Premier League regular for the last few seasons whilst you've dropped into L1.

We might see bursts of positive performance in tinpot trophy games and the odd sub appearance, but if he stays beyond this window, I doubt we will ever see back to back starting appearances in the league.

I'd assume he drops back out of the squad at the weekend with Perkins having had a week of training behind him.

Of course, the natural question is to ask "why would you give someone in that situation a 2 year contract on a chunky salary?".
But we all know the answer to that one.

Was he? He played half an hour in the cup game at Bristol four days after Cambridge and three days before Carlisle, and he didn’t even make the bench for either of those.
Yeah, missed Cambridge and Carlisle through injury. Assume issue flared up in cup game

It's a permanent hamstring injury that has to be managed. The issue under KR is that the medical team often deemed him fit to play but JM apparently didn't agree.

If we can't offload him then so be it, but I can't see him playing any minutes this season.

shame we dont have a reserve team.

I think the truth of it is only Murphy really knows. Is it really an injury? Is it a lack of passion for the game? Is it attitude? Is it ego? Does he dislike Manning? Home life? Mental health? Who knows. It’s nothing we haven’t seen a million times before at all levels and various clubs right up as high as Cristiano Ronaldo at Man Utd.

Whatever it is, Manning doesn’t even have enough sympathy to throw him on for a token few minutes. He’s made the bench once in the league despite being (publicly) declared unfit for just one. No matter what the match scenario he’s overlooked - the closing stages of Charlton were perfect for him but does anybody really think he would be where Goodrham and Mills were for the goal? Full sprint on the counter with 5 mins to go? If Manning believed he would be, he’d be playing.

No doubting his technical ability but look at McGuane who is technically as good or better and has played for far bigger clubs and still embracing it at this level. Has to start from within and it’s obviously not there with Murphy.
Bang on. Get rid

How about managing him, coaching him. He's an £11m footballer, quite obviously no mug and the challenge is their for coaching staff to get this guy firing. By all accounts he's popular within the squad, doesn't seem to kick up a fuss or act all big time. It's not like we are dealing with a sulky, sullen player.

I think the problem is he has persistent hamstring injury, he will only be able to do so much.

Av signing made more out of hope than anything, one of the many projects that the previous manager loved but that never came off.

This would be a great signing and would show we’re serious! Yes please
Scarlett going to Ipswich will be as an addition to the striker options, not to replace Ladapo (who won't be going anywhere I'll wager).

The sad thing is, we are stuck with him possibly to the end of the season, but at least we’ll get to see the 45 minutes cameo appearance between now and then
