How is he Des’s pal? Just because he was at the club when Des was 1st at the club?
Long is the only fit right back currently, I’m sure once Stevens is fit again we will see abit more rotation in that position.
Guess what though? We can’t bring anyone else in now and the squad is what it is now until the summer.
It’s not a secret we need a better right back for next season but do you think constantly slagging Sam Long off is going to make him suddenly play better? The guy is clearly going through a bad patch performance wise and I’d hope, considering he is one of our own, fans would be a bit more supportive and try and pick him up a bit.
He did ok with the same right back options he had this season…No but the lack of a decent Right back in this squad is his doing.
Guess what… lots of positions were over looked in January in favour of bringing in players in other positions. That’s because you can’t completely over haul a squad in the January transfer window. He was back in the side as soon as he was fit. Have a look back.
Sam Long hasn’t become a poor option for a promotion aspiring Lg1 team over night, many of us have said for quite some time that he isn’t up to the required level. Guess what though? the position was overlooked again in January.
I’m sure a seasoned professional like Long will not give a monkeys about an internet forum discussing his inept performances for his hometown club. He’s a big boy.
To be fair he came back when our options in the squad were severely limited. Summer will tell us whether Des thinks he is good enough or not. He isn't going to say anything other than supportive comments about him now. Our right side, whoever has played at right back and right midfield, has been our weak point all season and opposition teams know that.He was back in the side as soon as he was fit. Have a look back.

There’s a massive, massive difference between nasty messages on things like Twitter and Instagram, that they will be notified about when just opening their own personal accounts, and Sam Long choosing to log on to the Yellows Forum, click on the Sam Long thread and go ‘what are they saying about me then?’ after a game when he’s been done all ends up multiple times.Billy Bodin is a seasoned, experienced pro but has openly admitted to being affected by things said about him online.
I expect a lot better from my ‘perfectly decent squad players’ than I’ve seen from Sam Long in the last week. He doesn’t even cover that off any more, he’s been calamitous in our last two games and well below average for knocking on 2 years now. He’s now officially a weakness (if he wasn’t already). His 3 year contract stank of a favour because it was far from merited by his performances mind you had we ended up in league two, at least we could’ve relied on him being here. He’d be at home in league two and nobody above us would’ve come for him.Sam Long is a perfectly decent squad player but should absolutely not be a first choice RB for one of the better teams in L1. I would imagine Buckingham will sort this out in the summer. Teams consistently target Long, as they know he lacks pace and is one of our weaker players.
Checks definition of "calamitous".He doesn’t even cover that off any more, he’s been calamitous in our last two games
Ha! Yeh, I was probably being a bit too nice. He's a really low level L1 player at best. He'd do well in L2. His lack of pace has always been an issue. He was rubbish today and on Tuesday night.I expect a lot better from my ‘perfectly decent squad players’ than I’ve seen from Sam Long in the last week. And for those who continue to challenge the idea that you have to carry a bunch of steady Eddie’s around the place and he’s a more than adequate second choice, just look at our two left backs and tell me we’re adequately equipped the same way. It is perfectly possible to have 2 very good right backs much better than Sam Long so why we still end up reliant on him I just can’t fathom. He doesn’t get within a whiff of the first teams of those in the top 3 or 4 spots or any of the sides promoted in recent years so why, through blind loyalty, are our standards so damn low???
Great lad, I’m sure. Great servant, undoubtedly. Great player he is not.
I thought he was terrible. Obviously targeted by WW, who know he is slow. Because we all know that!I think there's an over reaction to his performance today, from memory he got done on two occasions by Sadlier. On both occasions I think you need to credit the Wycombe player for great wing play rather than taking the easy option of slating our own player. Other than that he was no worse or better than anyone else on the pitch.

Seems the hyperbole is necessary after screaming in to the abyss about this topic for so long and STILL we’ve got people here defending him after two of the most dire full back performances you will see across league one this season. Forgive me, I’m going a bit crazy with it because it’s absolutely mental.Checks definition of "calamitous".
Checks results of last two games.
(I agree he's not been brilliant btw, but the hyperbole from some on this forum, blimey.)
So, for balance, does that mean Greg Leigh only plays against crap wingers?I think there's an over reaction to his performance today, from memory he got done on two occasions by Sadlier.
