Well all the People I know are what you say ,at home matches. All this talk of poor support is infuriating. Fans don’t just show up to games on mass all happy and buoyant. More so at away games but that’s because we’re happy to be on a day out with friends, family or both. Most have had A few jars and we’re on someone else’s manor hopeful of 3 points. Plus all the hardcore fans are in one area.
At home it’s more fractured.
But like away games the atmosphere starts way before the game. A run of great performances or results gets one excited for the game. Great football, goals and win are why we all go to football. When we’ve watched so many boring and poor performances who’s going to show up to the game with expectations of victory and excitement inside? Then the game starts and our worst fears are realised again we’ve got to sit there and watch our team be s**t for 90 minutes.
Nobody is going to be jumping about all happy and singing. Sorry it just doesn’t work like that. It is the football on the pitch that fuels the fan’s excitement not the other way around. But I’m not saying fans can’t lift the team, of course they can but we need the football first.
We basically dominated the second half v Charlton. We have been terrible, boring even when we’ve won under Des. Take Charlton away awful for the most part and saved by a wonder goal. First of all it’s the injuries, OK give you that. Now it’s players getting back to match fitness. Excuses!
I think it's in his contract to take all set piecesThink we also need to change the set piece taker e.g. Brannagan. Always the same with the same outcome. When Henry took a few against Pompey they looked more dangerous.
The fans were OK for the first 20 minutes, considering the shite football. No one can watch that sh!t and not be depressed. At half time everyone I spoke to thought we would lose. We were 1-0 up. Fans feed off what they see on the pitch in the UK at least.Just today?
The atmosphere has been dire for a while. Ask anyone whether Oxford v Reading is a derby and they would laughed at you bearing in mind how quiet the fans were for that game recently.
Lots of reasons for it have been covered in other threads.
There are lots of people to blame for this mess but he's not one of them.It may upset quite a few on here but I think Brannagan is one of our problems, its all about him, he shoots too often must be 2 goals from about 70 long range shots this season. He's got to bring others into play with simple passes rather than Hollywood crossfield passes.
I cannot get my head around the fact we played such meek and dull football until we went 2-1 down and some players showed some desire. There was suddenly a flurry of movement when we went 1-2 down. If only we had that desire and drive at 1-0 up. Des shouldn’t be scared to shake things up when we are winning by the odd goal either. If we’re playing poor for a period then change things up irrespective of the score. Just like the Reading game, 1-0 was not a safe lead especially if the play was sluggish and uninspired.
I really would love it to work out for Des, but he does remind me of a Tim Henman type when comparing him to the likes of Djorkovic or Nadal types!! e.g. when he used to punch the air it looked like a wet/limp fish on a Friday afternoon in the first week at Wimbledon!! Having said that Manning was just as wet/limp!I cannot get my head around the fact we played such meek and dull football until we went 2-1 down and some players showed some desire.
I can't help but look at Des first. Manning was dry and robotic, but Des seems like a full on personality vacuum. I don't really understand how he has got gigs at the CFG, he might talk a good game but he's got no charisma or seemingly any fight.
I don't want another KR but I don't want someone as the other end of the spectrum as Desmond.
This feels an important point when looking at the Manning period.I really would love it to work out for Des, but he does remind me of a Tim Henman type when comparing him to the likes of Djorkovic or Nadal types!! e.g. when he used to punch the air it looked like a wet/limp fish on a Friday afternoon in the first week at Wimbledon!! Do we still have that psychotherapy guy at the club? Just asking as the players look scared so inevitably are making poor decisions/actions, but I don’t get the feeling that Des would be instilling that fear so not sure where it’s coming from unless it’s purely down to confidence. If it’s the latter then we (fans) need to really get behind the players, team and management to help. We’ve got to be as one, but without Tim!!
I’d also like to see the other coaching staff engaging/behind Des at games rather than him stood out there as a line figure.
Who’s the other dude who applied for the manager role you refer too? This feels an important point when looking at the Manning period.
He permanently had Hogg by his side, in discussions. It most probably allowed one to coach whilst the other dealt with the off field mess day to day also.
Des is now backed up by the dude who applied for the manager position because its convenient to remain in the area and the under 18s coach. He has a new analyst and a GK coach that in November was "a bit disillusioned".
The club can talk of being ambitious all they want, but off the field we appear to be a mess
Craig ShortWho’s the other dude who applied for the manager role you refer too?
He's part of a midfield that is constantly dominated it can't just be everybody else's fault. There are lots of people to blame for this mess but he's not one of them.
He won't be here next season I doubt and good luck to him.
It's football, lots of families going, It's not a pub crawl.Well all the People I know are what you say ,at home matches.
It should be so much easier to meet family & friends. Between the Town centre & on to the K*****m , there's plenty of watering holes.Yesterday I met fellow mates & U's fans , in Town , Cowley, & Blackbird Leys.
Easy Peasy.......

Have we got any names yet? Some of them are not playing for the manager.
Oh okay, I didn’t think he applied for it this time around, unless you’re referring to the period after Robinson had gone.Craig Short
Only one coach/manager allowed in the technical area.Oh okay, I didn’t think he applied for it this time around, unless you’re referring to the period after Robinson had gone.
Personally I would like to see Short supporting Des more in the technical area and Chris Hackett (not seen him at all) as I think that’s better than nothing and would show some togetherness.
I personally haven’t seen any evidence of that, but if they’re not fully aware of their role/structure/direction etc within the team then I guess it could be seen of not playing for Des. I just don’t believe he (Des) would P**s players off enough for them to turn against him/not play for him. Some of them are not playing for the manager.
