Ian Greaves also did an amazing job in turning us around in the time he was here before leaving, luckily for us at the time Jim Smith came in and took us to even greater heights.I think Malcom Crosby was only ever a caretaker manager.
What the raw stats don't show however is the nuance of the jobs some of these people did. Brian Horton, for instance, was in charge just after Mark Lawrenson left the club and during the period when Maxwell fell off his boat - the club were in severe money problems at the time, yet he still managed to keep us in what is now The Championship year after year with a side playing some bloody good (if inconsistent) football. Maurice Evans was our manager during our stay in the top flight - keeping us up twice and winning a major trophy is up there with anything any Oxford manager has managed to achieve. We would have qualified for Europe if English clubs hadn't been banned at the time.
Crosby was appointed as a permanent manager I believe, but after a crap start jumped at the chance to rejoin Denis Smith, apologies if my understanding is wrongI think Malcom Crosby was only ever a caretaker manager.

If that is the case it completely slipped my memory, good knowledge.Crosby was appointed as a permanent manager I believe, but after a crap start jumped at the chance to rejoin Denis Smith, apologies if my understanding is wrong
Of course it’s Mickey Mouse - he’s been very successful and got highly experienced at flipping burgers. That’s absolute garbage, whatever the level you still need to be able to manage and win football matches, he’s been a success wherever he’s been whether that’s at Morrells Oxford Sunday league, conference South, Indian premier or English Premiership, although different levels still needs expertise coaching/managing experience, he is part of the City coaching network, I wouldn’t say that’s Mickey Mouse, would you Smith????
It’s irrelevant what the standard is - point is he’s been successful everywhere he’s been - Having said that the next five games are huge…….Of course it’s Mickey Mouse - he’s been very successful and got highly experienced at flipping burgers.
So suddenly he is way out of his depth as he has shown.
What would be an acceptable result, in your opinion?19 games in and Des has had a week to work on his style ,looking forward to the result Saturday .
Listen to the Dubs just before Manning's departure you can hear Elek being worried about the statistics showing we werent actually good enough to be 2nd back thenYes but the point is we were good enough to be 2nd under Manning and then weren’t god enough under a much less competent experienced manager.
What playing the best team in the league away? What result would be OK in your view?19 games in and Des has had a week to work on his style ,looking forward to the result Saturday .
Win 4-1. Alfie Potter and Deane Smalley with 2 each. What would be an acceptable result, in your opinion?

Any draw would do ,they have scored 11 goals in the last 3 home games ,so with our defence how shambolic it has been a draw would feel like a win. What would be an acceptable result, in your opinion?
That’s a very good point. He hasn’t been able to bring in the people he really wants in the same way Manning did. And we also saw with Mapp.I suspect they also received a hell of a lot more support than Des has.
We might not have been good enough to maintain second, but we were certainly good enough to maintain a strong playoff challenge.Listen to the Dubs just before Manning's departure you can hear Elek being worried about the statistics showing we werent actually good enough to be 2nd back then
how do you listen to it?What a great Dub it was this week. I would advise anyone listen to it.
Great analysis of us by Ben Purkiss.
Some very levelling comments and statements that paint a good perspective.
