He made 34 league apps for us last season, 29 of which were starts, totalling nearly 2500 minutes. He was pretty disappointing for the most part, but not sure that's a fair assessment of his recent fitness history.
Only being available to start ~60% of league games isn't great though

Edwards has played 284minutes of football for us so far across 4 starts and 2 sub appearances.

The most league minutes he's played in one season in his career is 1,052, the equivalent to 11.7 matches.
Impacted by injuries and being part of a very good Ipswich squad where he was mainly used as a substitute, especially last season (less than 5 starts, but 25+ sub appearances)

Wingers are explosive so aren't going to be playing every minute but he is on the low side.
He really needs to show that he is capable of featuring and from the start on a more regular basis.
Hopefully these few months of recovery can act like another pre-season, with the potential for a few games at the backend of the season, and then a proper preseason to put him in a strong position (hopefully with us) for next season.

Ok, my ten game span shouldn’t be taken absolutely literally and there will always be periodic exceptions, but you know where I’m coming from. Would you say he’s had a stop start career injury wise or a very consistent playing one ?
He's had a stop start career injury wise, he isn't 'the most predictably injured footballer in the country'

Browne, Murphy, and Edwards are all good wingers with question marks over their long term fitness. We’d need to put them through some sort of contest or joust to determine which one of them is worth giving a new contract to.

Jermaine Easter?

He's in his 40s now and was never as good as Christmas.
Jermaine Easter.

That brings back memories of being a forum rumour every time there was a transfer window and even further back, the old style March deadline day.

As well as Junior Agogo, Matt Tubbs, Matthew Barnes-Homer and plenty of others!

According to the Charlton ITK poster on their forum, they’ve bid more and offered better wages for Goodwin, but Cheltenham are reluctant to sell to a relegation rival.
Are we still in pole position with Goodwin joining as we was yesterday and he won't have to move either

Matthew Barnes-Homer - I used to think he would be the answer to our prayers around 2007

I don't think you can expect much more than 2500 mins from a wide player in a league season
There may be data from a wider pool but just looking at some of the better L1 wingers last season, they all played way more than 2500 mins:

Rak-Sakyi - 3498'
Collins (according to transfermarkt he played a lot of games out wide last season) - 3910'
Burns - 3353'
Ward - 3312'
Mendez-Lang - 3308'

Even McCleary at 35 played more than 2500 minutes.

Yep, we really have been pretending to go for top strikers since 2007!

I remember the sneaky 150k bid for Agogo when he was being linked with 500k moves just to look like we were showing ambition.

It's our trademark.

My assessment of the transfer window so far is that it is taking a similar spin to when the government said that they had recruited thousands more nurses in the NHS because they were counting nurses that hadn't left and chose to stay in the NHS as new recruits.

Last season was his second most appearances in a season with 39, 18/19 on loan with us was his best with 44. Problem is he is 26 and those two seasons are pretty much it, he has only managed 49 career games in all the other seasons, with only 38 league games outside of those two seasons, when he is out that's pretty much him done for the season.

He will be here till the end of this season as no point paying him up, we might get something out of him however brief, but we shouldn't take up the option of another year.

Their ITK poster must have been on here and read my (slightly) tongue-in-cheek comment. Either that or someone here is feeding Charlton information. Can't think who.

Where’s Mellow Yellow these days? Can’t be easy doing all the Misery Business by yourself
His last post was in the Derby game match thread. He would have taken a big turn for the worse after that result, maybe he’s recuperating somewhere, readying himself for a big explosive return!?!
