Away Match Day Thread +++ 17/09/19 L1: Bolton Wanderers v OUFC +++

It's hard to defend KR after that. Bolton have some good players, but they have had no time to gel and surely our 'match' fitness should have told. A key managerial skill is being able to make effective substitutions and making effective changes during the match? Didn't see that happen tonight.

We're not being hampered by injuries this season either. Fair enough last year the Eastwood injury was hard to deal with, but this season's main injuries are Napa and Hanson and they are not really regular 1st teamers. Baptiste was a miss tonight but that is one player. No sympathy for KR re Agyei (I think a good signing) but KR knew it would take a while to get match fit. Taylor is probably not match fit because he got injured at Rovers, a game which he probably should not have started (called by a number of posters on here).

Of course there is time to turn things around but that is 1/5 of the season gone, another poor start. So effing frustrating.

An embarrassing result and performance. We are probably just good enough to stay up in a weak league, but it’s going to be a long season.

The most depressing thing is we have just given him a 3 year contract so he isn’t going anywhere, we will be back here in a year saying the same stuff as a different bunch of loanees squeezed into a formation that doesn’t suit with an unbalanced squad struggles.

So much wrong with us tonight.
Taylor looks like the wrong player for us right now. Totally lost and about as threatening as a fluffy bunny. Saying that our midfield couldn’t find him even if he was any good. What happened to the creative, brilliant team we had for the first 3 matches, the one crying out for someone to put the chances away.
We look completely clueless trying to create anything. Especially towards the end of the second half. Lumping the ball up even blindly at times.
Struggling to find anything positive to write about us.

Karl genuinely said though that Bolton were probably one of the best teams we have played this season. The same Bolton who got thrashed 6-1 at the weekend. I honestly don't understand his logic sometimes...

It’s called an excuse. Rotherham must be fooling amazing then.

No ideas, no practical comments, no real grasp of what is wrong - Karl I am trying to keep faith with you but you really do talk a load of B*****s sometimes. Have a nice sleep in the hotel tonight, good breakfast and then PULL YOUR F******g finger out!!! No result against Lincoln and the season is looking grim.

Tigerdinnerjacket or whatever your called get rid of that f*****g scouse w****r now

Those having a go at Robbo are bloody idiots. You can not compare this Bolton to the one of a few weeks back, some of their batch of signings are quality footballers and it’s only a matter of time before they start clawing back points.

Ok, so they lost 6-1 Saturday and that’s always going to make tonight more difficult, they'd have spent the last three days working on tightening up and with the experience they now have there are players good enough to learn from a 6-1. They aren’t a team of kids as they were a few weeks ago.

Win at Lincoln, especially if we can ally it with a clean sheet, then it’s a very good week and a platform to gain some momentum.

Liam Bridcutt is a very good footballer and showed it tonight tbf.
He played a game on trial for us when we first got back into the football league, when our reserve matches were played at Didcot Town. Signed for Brighton a week or two later. Little bit of trivia for you there to break up the rabble.

Just landed at Gatwick after a 7 hour delay and flight that meant we didn't even get to listen to the game. Sounds like we were lucky!
FFS! If we can't score once against Bolton, what is going on?

Tonight’s performance does highlight how unbalanced the squad is. What can Robinson do to shake things up for Saturday? Taylor looks way off the pace at the moment, hopefully he can play himself into form - a goal will hopefully do wonders, because Mackie is by all accounts struggling with his back and Agyei looks nowhere near ready. Hall also looks a million miles from being able to influence a game. Sykes hasn’t had a look in, Thorne? Who knows the state of his fitness.. Baptiste - struggling with his knee.

At the back Dickie is one yellow away from a one game ban and Moore is also struggling with his back. So Nico or Sam Long are the only options to partner Mous.

I know things always look a bit bleak after a poor performance and we’re just as likely thump Lincoln knowing us, but things do seem a bit ‘wing and a prayer’ at the moment.

The thing is while yes some good players they have had a few days to gel as a team . Expect them to havr a go but our levels of fitness and knowledge of playing as a team that has been built over two years should have seen us creating lots of chances against an open side.
I hope we get something sgainst Lincoln but we are not looking great.

Yes but due to dreadful opening form from some other sides. We're averaging one point a game at present - that's relegation form over the season.

Not that I think we will go down mind as there's only 3 (2?) places available and some shocking sides in the division.
We will get better and will finish nowhere near relegation. That's my prediction.
There are always poor sides at the bottom of the Division.

this team hasn't really been built over w years though as most quality players leave each season

the one thing that is now sure is that this is now KRs team so his excuses wear a bit thin now
