Home Match Day Thread +++ 14/1/2020 OUFC V Ipswich Town L1 +++

Just got home. Soggy and cold. I’ll take a point. Not a game I’ll remember for anything football related. On we go to Gillingham. COYY

Thought we, Ipswich, were bloody terrible tonight. going forwards (bar one headed chance early on). Defence fought well in tough conditions. We maybe edged the first half, you looked the more dangerous team second half.
Referee was pretty good I thought, good decision to go off and get work on the pitch as it improved when teams came back out.
He got most things right spot on - better than the usual sh**e I've seen in this division.
All the best, see you at Portman Road
Hard to tell much about anything from that. Ipswich looked decent and I liked the big forward Keane. Either of us could have won that and I think we’ll both be up there. See you at Wembley.

Is that your normal standard or well below par?

First half was there second was ours, having said that Eastwood didn’t have a huge amount to do, however we didn’t work their goalie enough either, great shot from Ruffles, Fosu was through on goal second half but his first touch was awful, Matty had a chance but wanted one too many touches, Shandon needs to stop trying to roll the ball and shoot, again in the second half in their area he tried another roll..... a game we should have won, could easily have won but I suppose I’m happy with a point as opposed to none

I do think some fans near me could have been a little more understanding with the player today. It was clear the ball wasn't running true at times, but it didn't stop a few howling with derision if the pass or cross wasn't perfect. Take a moment to think before niggling lads

The pitch conditions improved because it stopped raining....ridiculous decision to take the teams off all because of a fantastic sliding tackle.....the games gone to the pansies........ffs

Didn’t think much of Ipswich tonight and felt they were there for the taking.

Just felt if we played the kind of football we know we can, especially 2nd half we could have won the game.

I just feel KR has got it wrong last few games. He was like a man possessed tonight which then transcended onto the pitch, and also paid them too much respect rather than focusing on what we’re/were capable of.

Before the poor result/performance Saturday I would have taken a point tonight, but after Saturday and seeing that Ipswich were not all that I’m disappointed.

Only one point out of 9 which isn’t great, especially when I felt we would push on after Christmas and recent signings to strengthen the squad.

Got a difficult game Saturday, so here’s hoping we pick up all 3 points as we could find ourselves nearer mid table by the time we play our next league game after Gillingham.

Well, well below par. We put in a fantastic performance at the weekend. We missed Jackson up front who was a late pull-out due to a tight hamstring.
Awful performance from us so more than happy not be taken to the cleaners.

A weird game - we did ok in patches, they did ok in patches but the weather was the deciding factor. Can't say I'd want to watch Lambertball more than once a year - the whole thing was dreary like the manager and too snide and negative. Norwood is a comedian or an actor, the Ref got it right when Mous pulled him down - Lambert is too dishonest to imply otherwise.

Thought Browne was good, we miss Cadden and Henry out wide, we look ok, but not as incisive with the ball and it doesn't create as many opportunities. Bapstiste just keeps on learning and getting better; if only Fosu was able to get the ball out from his feet and move it on.

All in with the weather, a decent result but I don't fear them at all.

The Ref was ok, had some strange moments and got the added time wrong but for a young Ref, he did get rather stitched up by it all.
What time did he get wrong?

You can’t have been there for the first half on Saturday then.

tonight was a reasonable performance in anti-football conditions.

Positives included:

Mous - colossal at the back and leads the team so well.
Gorrin - Breaks up play and tonight was no exception
Baptiste - his vision! He’s seemed to see things no one else on the pitch saw at times.
Browne - looks to have more physical presence this year and I think as a 10 he will become hugely influential. He was my MOM tonight by a distance.

Negatives:

Eastwood - Looks short on confidence. He’s simply not as commanding as he needs to be and looks indecisive at times which breeds nervousness.
Long - defensively he’s reasonably sound but his lack of attacking threat and limited delivery is a cause for concern. Reinforcements required ASAP.
Ruffles - thought he was extremely poor in and out of possession 1st half but improved a touch in the 2nd. Looked a little fatigued to me (understandably!) cover and squad rotation would be beneficial I think in the left back position.
Fosu - Give the guy a break Robbo. Can’t help but feel we are flogging him to death atm and I think his performances have tailed off so much that it’s no coincidence.

take the point tonight and let’s go get three at Gills. It’s not the most salubrious away end but let’s back the boys in big numbers - they deserve it! COYY’s!

I mean as an overall game, saturday was reasonable in the second half.

Erm it was quite wet

The pitch wasn’t too bad 2nd half, so felt we should have got the ball down and played the football the know we can, hence why I feel disappointed with our performance.

It’s clear to me we are missing what Cadden brought to the team. His control of the ball was second to none which invariably meant that he had good time to play the next good ball. Also his overlapping as an outlet to the team meant we stretched teams, thus giving others players more space etc etc.

Thought we went too narrow tonight which didn’t help, especially as the pitch was much wetter there, whereas, the flanks held up much better.

Conditions played a big part tonight. I was hoping the ref would call the game off as clearly we couldn’t play our game as we would normally do or like to

we clearly missed the Cadden/ Henry combination down the right. Holland looks a bit lightweight and for me Long offers nothing attacking.
That said happy with a point that’s the type of game I have seen us lose 1-0 usually in the 89th minute
