It amazes me what goes through people's heads. Your team has just made it to Wembley and your first thought is to have it out with the opposition players... crazy!
I don't think much goes through their heads really. Apart from too much alcohol and probably a bit of the white stuff. It's a bizarre thing, trying to show how hard you are by blindsiding an unexpected victim who wasn't looking for a fight.

Basically, trying to be the big man and showing yourself up as the exact opposite.

The sad thing is that a pitch invasion at the end of the season can be a joyful, harmless thing, even if it’s not allowed. But it’s completely ruined by pratty youths attacking opposition players - some of whom will probably end up playing for their club one day.

It was never a problem until this season, really. Sure, you’d get the odd idiot mouth off at an opposition player but that was it. Physical assaults are happening now.

Someone was on the receiving end of a kick from Patrick Vieira in the Everton game too. The lad was in his face goading him but Vieira will be the one to get in trouble.

Rather classless from a minority of Vale fans tonight.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why anyone decides to invade the pitch, particularly when they've asked not to do so. It's never harmless, not least because it prevents the majority of fans from enjoying success and celebrating it with the team. Frankly, it's selfish.

McKirdy has already played for Vale according to the commentary and apparently a big thing was made of it in the media in the build up. Not that it excuses in anyway the brain dead thugs who went after him.

Exactly, what it does is rob teammates and staff of the opportunity celebrate with each other in the moment after the full-time whistle or winning a penalty shootout, and it's a danger for opposition players too. They'll be at best goaded when they're at their lowest and fuelled with adrenaline, and worse is attacks on players like Billy Sharp will happen.

Is it really that difficult to celebrate near your seat in the stands instead of running onto the playing field pretending you had something to do with the victory?

After these repeated incidents - Sharp at Forest, Swindon at Vale, Viera at Everton - it's only a matter of time before the FA act. I suspect it'll be fines, playing the next game without fans and even possibly points deductions.
