Ok, time for some optimism. Hopefully today will be the day we finally see some new players coming through the door. KR said at the start of the week he was expecting a busy week with up to 3 coming in. Hopefully one a day coming in today, tomorrow and Friday 🙏🤞🤞 Come on Robbo, make it happen!

I think we’ll have a couple through the door by Friday. (Absolutely no itk knowledge except scouring page 312 on teletext)

Feeling positive that we have a good core and we’ve not jumped into any panic sightings just because the clock is ticking .

Sounds like with Hickey to Brentford done Dom Thompson is free to come (if that is the prem lb), Whyte discussions still taking place, Findlay will be here next week & Jodi Jones/Sinclair decisions would be made fairly soon I imagine. If we can get Thompson, Whyte, Findlay and Jones over the line things look a lot more promising!

Agree with that, fingers crossed, things would look reasonable.

I’ve been fairly optimistic throughout, but I would say that is at best ‘reasonable’.

Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t bad and we need players but we still have quite a few gaps that need plugging with quality (clearly harder than KR thought).

Still…..bring on the klaxon!

The one key position missing there would be CM.
Left back and CB plus a couple of wide men are most important plus the CM.
With those in we would have a decent starting 11 and a decent bench

The medical reports stated in no uncertain terms that George Thorne’s body was no longer capable of professional football. We attempted to sign him early in the summer of 2019 and the prognosis was essentially “don’t even think about it.” He was then brought in a month or two later anyway, and then signed again in January of 2020. He had been so ravaged by such serious injuries in his career, and had spent such enormous periods of time being inactive, that his physical condition was totally ruined.

It was nothing to do with bad luck or whether an injury was “fresh” or not - his body had given up and it was made very clear that he would pick up injury after injury etc.

It was a touch unnerving also that the Derby forum referred 'affectionately to him as 'weetabix legs'.

If we got Thompson and Findlay or equivalent quality, we’d have a strong back 4. RB a bit of a question mark but sounds like Long should be fit for Derby.

No doubt we’ll sign at least 4 wingers/forwards, but the 9? midfielders and attackers we already have are very competent, so I’m not as concerned about that. Certainly not upset by the idea of trying to get a bit of a budget enabler like Jones or Sinclair match fit within that context either.

HOLD THE PAGE.

I am going to call out the attacks on Jerome Sinclair; following the admission from LBS that he is suffering from fatigue and I wish some on here would show a little decorum.

Fatigue is likely to reference tiredness in undertaking physical activity or lack of energy. The man hasn't played professional football for nearly a year. Give him a break. I suspect most people suffer from fatigue in some degree.

However, it doesn't have to be fitness related. It is also associated to depression and other mental health issues. So show some f***ing respect and let the club manage it how they see fit.

If Sinclair can get fit, and is he’s motivated, then he’s easily very good L1 standard. And he’s only 25. Winnall’s legs had clearly gone. He was possibly even more useless than Mackie, and that’s a very low bar. Sinclair is definitely worth looking at, and remember, at this stage, that’s all we are doing!
Winnalls legs have gone but never mind the trialist who was fatigued playing 45 minutes against Banbury?!

Sinclair has been nowhere near L1 standard since he left, or up to any standard for that matter. No different to what we were saying about Winnall "if he gets fit, if he gets back to his best, if he can recapture those Barnsley days".

As I mentioned in my post, we're looking at him but I'll be absolutely stunned if we signed him, we've already made those mistakes and we have stronger opponents to face this season, we won't be relying on an out of form, goal shy striker who we need to wait for this legs to come back. We made that mistake last season, we'll be after a decent PL loan striker as 3rd choice.

HA, remember all the old boys moaning when we signed him - poor signing, not good enough, could do better etc. It was fine to let him move on but we need to sign a couple of good pros like that to fill in some gaps.
I wondered about this as I thought the reaction was very positive. Got four or so pages in and apart from one poster calling him average and losing track of the thread a little bit due to @RyanioBirdio's fictitious wedding to Chris Williams the comments were very positive, including the likes of @greatunclekip
