Defence needs looking at in Jan transfer market for sure . I’m just pleased we actually put in a performance to be proud of for a change against one of the stronger sides in the division

TBF it is their fault if they let anybody be 'reckless with their money' as they should always have the final say.

Looking at yesterday's game and hoping that Kyle Joseph will be back sometime after Christmas, I am not sure that we need many signings?
I would like to see us keep Bate to the end of the season, see if we can offload Seddon and replace him ( even with a loan signing) get in a young striker and maybe a MF player as back up ( if any of the 3 main players are out for any length of time)
I expect that Smyth/ Jones will go out on loan.
Interesting point about offloading Seddon, not sure when his contract expires but to me he’s not even going to be a good back up and needs offloading sooner rather than later. I wonder whether Karl sees it that way and if he does will he be able to discard the player loyalty gig he overdoes and move him on.
We should be striving to improve on each position whether back up or not.

Ipswich away on Boxing Day, lost to Wycombe. Have sold 27k tickets so all the pressure is on them.

Here's the thing about January though...what would we be happy with the club saying in a public forum?

If they'd said we're really going for it and we're going to sign lads of quality players, would people be happier?

Surely everyone knows the January window is notoriously difficult for getting deals done, especially permanent deals for in demand and in form players, and especially this January window directly after the World Cup finishes (and yes it does have a knock-on effect).

I am perfectly happy with the club managing expectations in this way, because it is a dose of realism that has perhaps been missing ahead of and during previous windows.

Whether or not you trust KR and the team to make the right decisions with who they do bring in is another matter of course.

PS - agree about the 2 points dropped, but to actually feel that way away against a team who are just outside the autos is something...surely??

This is why the summer window is so important to get right, and despite what Robinson says, it was not a good window.

KR has in his time at the club bought some exciting players in, and I’ve enjoyed some of the football we’ve played.

However I don’t trust him to build a balanced squad. That is first and foremost his Achilles heel, and that is why in my opinion he falls short.

As for yesterday, I’d have taken a point prior to the match and although I wasn’t at the game Jerome, it sounds like a heartening performance despite the missed opportunities from Henry and Murphy.

The simple truth is though, we’ve got to start winning football matches.

From here a final league position of 7th or 8th looks likely.

Alot of good signs with squad ,definately need a defensive midfielder a left back cover .Right back cover a striker who can hold it up and taller and stronger. Then Seddon ,mcginty ,Smyth and Jones out on loan a d Stevens back .Then we will have a fantastic 2nd part of the season 6 wins in a row absorbs of exciting things

For the sake of the lads concerned I hope you're right about those going out on loan
Can't see Karl wanting Stevens back after he forced him out

I think that it us pretty obvious that KR does see it that way (he hardly plays Seddon)
I think that it is more of a question of whether we can offload him.
I assume that if the club make it clear that he won't get a new contract and we will let him leave (maybe top up his wages if necessary), then he could try and get a more long term contract?

I hope they go out on loan as well.
Then bring in 3 to 4 better
Stevens is an interesting one. He is playing first team football in L1 and I can't see him displacing Eastwood at the moment.

Stevens is no better than Eastwood, he let's in the same type of goals, doesn't command his area at all, I would rather keep Easty in and pray he stays fit, if it came to playing McGinty, we'll I don't think it would cost us promotion as I think we've left it too late anyway and he would get much needed experience.

I think we could be in the mix and the experience of Stevens could be useful and Mcginty out on loan good for him.

I actually think the midfield one is key. There is so little back up there that we’ve had Bodin starting and we stand to lose Bate in the summer. I’d still like some more physicality in there anyway. The striker definitely as well, someone like Bonne who has a presence but can play would be a great alternative.

Just had a quick look on the Wednesday forum. Software/organisation not as good as this one, but miles better than Luton.
Not read a word about us , just moaning about the manager. One jolly soul even suggested Karl as replacement! 🤣.
Don't all rush to drive Karl up north, we'll hold a lotery.
Tickets will be 10 quid each, first name out of the hat wins the honour and 50 quid petrol money. Any monies left will be donated to the "buy Malc a bottle of Petrus" fund. 😉🍷

I’m quite happy with a few loan signings if it improves us where we need it. Up front is obvious but cover in central midfield is needed with games coming thick and fast.
If we can have a fit squad we might make a late run at the playoffs but I’m not holding my breath for every SW and Bolton performance there is a dire display against teams we should be beating

Agreed

I think the January window is massively over-hyped and don't expect anything big from it. As I said, keeping the buggers fit is the biggest challenge (given some of the injuries/injury gambles we've taken this year...). That and a bit of cover/competition in defence, DM and up front (hoping Joseph will be back in good time, but not so sure....)

One thing we do seem to be consistent at is upping our game against the bigger clubs and then letting ourselves down against the smaller ones and the scrappers.

I also kind of think that we played Wednesday at the right time. Their fans were already on their back before yesterday because of recent poor performances...and there are few quicker in L1 than Sheff Wed fans to start moaning when they are not bossing the league (like it's their god-given right to :ROFLMAO: ). Mind you, not nearly as bad as the moaning currently on show since they announced Southgate is staying in charge of England, but I digress....

this seasons Sunderland?

Just thinking that if we could get 4 points from the next two games which isn’t impossible we would have 30 points from 23 games
Now if with a few good loans and massively improve at home 45 points from the second half of the season is achievable
Most of the teams in the top 6 we’ve played have been beatable it’s picking up points elsewhere that’s letting us down

Keeping them fit relies on them not being knackered to start with I guess! :)

One of those frustrating results where we should have taken all 3 points but didn`t. Ho hum.
