Nero's only famous because a chain of coffee bars was named after him. The site of Rome was occupied since the Bronze Age, ~1,500 years BC, and became a political entity about 650 BC, the Roman Republic. The flashy buildings were, as @TailsWeWin says, later.

I once built a garden shed in a day, it was bigger than this and had both a door and a window.

Small correction. Nero was actually named after the chain of coffee bars such was their popularity

And Rome was actually name after Frome, but some scallywag stole the F from the sign.

"Nero murdered his mother, and Nero fiddled while Rome burned. Nero also slept with his mother, Nero married and executed one stepsister, executed his other stepsister, raped and murdered his stepbrother. In fact, he executed or murdered most of his close relatives. He kicked his pregnant wife to death. He castrated and then married a freedman. He married another freedman, this time himself playing the bride. He raped a vestal virgin. He melted down the household gods of Rome for their cash value."

oh i love the history books lol
Nero couldn't have fiddled as the fiddle didn't exist at that time and he was 35 miles away when the fire broke out - but he did rush back to oversee it's putting out. As with many poor and unpopular leaders, 'history' writers in later years made sure he was painted as black as could be!

What we now know as Rome was effectively begun by Augustus Caesar around 20BC at the start of the Roman Empire. Amphitheaters, baths, bridges and aqueducts first appeared around this time.
On Yellow Forum every day’s a school day.

Yeah, but apart from that what did the Romans ever do for us?

For reference: I asked AI why we shouldn't have let Jack Midson go but the answer was a bit dull and generic.

Well they discovered images of pizza-style food on walls in Pompeii...

During various visits to Italy, I was often informed that what we know as Pizza, was actually an invention of American military personnel following their arrival in Sicily during WW2. They took Italian flat bread and added various toppings. Other stories indicate the use of tomato and mozzarella by the locals and eaten as a snack with a drink in the evening prior to having dinner.

Jeez imagine what they'll say about Boris in 100 years

Heard we’ve put a new 6 figure bid down for a striker, that isn’t Jack Marriott 👀
Funny you say that, because I just bumped into Agon Mehmeti in Tesco and he was wearing full Oxford gear. Can’t be a coincidence can it?
